Back to Doomben with what should be about the perfect racing surface!

Track should be a Good 3 + the rail is out 1m

It looks a really good card on paper and hopefully I can help you find a few winners.

*For those who have just discovered the site or been sent a link from a mate, this is simply my preview of the Brisbane races. I will inform you how I see the races being run and therefore who I see as the winner etc. You can do what you like with the information. There is no charge on the website so there is no need to feel as though you have paid for the rights to the selections and therefore have to back them.

Blackbookers: (Although we have had a good run on Blackbookers some of these don’t look that well placed today…)

August 18
BONARIA CAULFIELD R7 No.11 (1200m)- Super impressive taking a step in grade.
CONGO DOOMBEN R1 No.2 (1600m)-Can win again.
FIRE UP FIFI DOOMBEN R2 No.4 (1600m)-Good ride means she can win.
DANAGAZE DOOMBEN R4 No.1 (1350m)-May need one more run.
RAMBLING ON  DOOMBEN R5 No.6 (2100m)-Always thereabouts in open race.

**Prices are tattsbet prices at time of typing.

Race 1:

PACE- Slow tempo with the Patinack runners probably the leaders- OFFENSE and CHANGE OFTEN.

CONGO should be able to camp on their backs and if he can reproduce the sprint from a fortnight ago I think he can win again. I think he is one of the better bets on the card and you may get around $3.

FANTISHA is the biggest danger but she has been extremely costly for punters. Dry track helps but should be giving CONGO a bit of a head start.

Race 2:

PACE- Tricky. If he wanted to ROCKDALE could walk this at a snail pace. Tactics will play a big part here and I have a feeling a jockey may take off early (not that many do these days). Hard race to work out for that reason.

I think the best ride will win the race. Really hard to work this one out.

FIRE UP FIFI is flying and gets in with 51kg. HOUR OF PERIL was terrific last start. GREY ASSIGNMENT was held up in an unsuitable race last start, and the step to 1600m is a positive. LUCKY LUNA good on his day.??

I will stick with the greys. FIRE UP FIFI and GREY ASSIGNMENT are the two I have on top, but there are better races than this to be punting on today.

Race 3:

PACE-Again not much tempo. This should favour horses close to the pace. JUST BETTY and FLINDERS CITY should be the leaders and HIDDEN KISSES should get the run of the race.

Even though she gets the run of the race and is the one to beat, $1.85 HIDDEN KISSES is ridiculous. Surely she starts closer to $3 ?? I can’t have her at that price.

CATASHEE looks hard to beat @ $5. She gets a great run from gate 2 and Bell can stalk the leaders.

CONFIDENT has been well backed this prep and the step to 1350m on the back-up all suit. In an open race at $15 I’d be having something small on her and leave it at that.

JUST BETTY can run a cheeky race up front at nice odds and with just 51.5kg. I do think the 1350m at this grade is an ask but she has a fair bit of upside and peaks here.

MAGIC TARTAN ran well last start but she will get back and tempo may not suit her.

Race 4:

PACE- Slow tempo again. Not a race for backmarkers even though it’s only a small field.

STARTSMEUP gets the run of the race and only needs some luck to get off the fence on the turn to be winning again. Browne will really suit this horse and he’ll nurse him as long as possible.

GOLDEN CASH comes out of a good form race behind D’jet, Colless goes back on top and it is the quinella horse.

DANAGAZE and ONETIMEATBANDCAMP can round out the trifecta.

Race 5:

PACE- Little or no pace on paper! RACING HEART and CASH’N’STYLE should lead at a very ordinary clip.

That will play into RACING HEART’s ($5) hands and gives him every opportunity. He has a good record this track/trip and Allen’s on board.

Simply looks too hard for them to beat SAINT ENCOSTA ($3.50) on his last two runs. He put them away easily last start and actually looked pretty good in doing it. The dry tracks are the key to him.

WARRIOR WITHIN does meet him 2kg better off this time around and is at $5 for those looking elsewhere.

RAMBLING ON is a blackbooker, Munce stays on top and a win is not far off.

***Not a race I will be betting on**

Work around-    3,2,6,1

Race 6:

PACE-Good pace here with SHAFEEQ, KOMODO BLUE and DANEOMITE all pushing forward.

SHAFEEQ and LIESELE are both very well placed and extremely hard to beat with good runs in the race!

However I think there is one at a better price here in AROUND THE WORLD. She improved lengths last prep winning two races at Doomben when ridden quiet. 1st up last prep she was 4 wide the whole trip and had to tire late. Since then they have ridden her cold and more importantly she has trialled (impressively) this time in work. I think she could be the best value today, although I did think she’d have come up at a better price than $6….

PRETTY COMPOSED is probably the best roughie in the race.

Race 7:

PACE-Should be fair pace early from this tricky starting point. DIENEKES, MODERN AL and MYSTIC MAHAL will try to lead. A few chances may get caught wide here and this could be an ugly race.

At first glance I was disappointed with the $3 for TRANSPORTER, but there really isn’t much class in this race. He does look the one to beat. I have him on top but there has to be some query as the last time he run off a10 day break he was well beaten (may have been at end of prep by then?).

DIENEKES only looked ok in winning at the midweeks but he is handy on his day and should improve into this race. Personally I think he is better ridden with a sit, but I think they will push forward here. How much juice do they use to cross from 12?

RUN JAKE RUN was simply far too good to leave out of this. It was one of the runs of the day and if he repeats that then the $10 is overs. WHITE PHOSPHORUS was in the same race and was 3 wide the entire. It was an enormous run for the in-form Gollan stable . Carries 52kg again here and if Butler can secure some cover he is in this up to his ears.

FLEET RIANE has really be mixing her form and probably goes in quaddies but she’s not in my top couple.

BRAMPTON is by no means the worst here and has had a couple of torrid runs lately. Drawsa better gate here and can run a race at $17. HUSH POWER with Munce from gate 2 will also find some support.

Race 8:

PACE- WESTERN SHADOW(SCR) will push hard to dross from a wide gate. I’M COOL, SOMEDAY and STREAM OF LIGHT will make it as difficult as possible for him to do that and there should be a genuine pace giving all a chance. **UPDATE** A bit of pace has come out with the scratchings now…

Interesting race to finish the Jackpot Quaddie off! The two sons of Falvelon will fight out favouritism. SOMEDAY has opened up $3 and I’M COOL $3.80. I’d be surprised if that doesn’t swap around by race time.

I’m leaning to the one Tom Rockliff keeps telling me is named after him- I’M COOL off two impressive wins and I think the form will hold up from his last win (cuddlesome has won since already) Matheson takes the 3kg claim and he will be up on pace.

SOMEDAY is another good runner for Munce. My main question on him are the horses he has been racing and beating (or running 2nd to). Can win but odds look too short.

BRIBIE (SCR) is the brother to Woorim and could be a big improver this prep. The stable have always said he has ability and we may see it this time in work. He was great 1st up and he does have a better 2nd up record.

TUATARA should be half the $17 quote he is at the moment. His form has been very good around Solebid and Revitalise who have both run well since he met them. Well and truly ‘overs’.

WESTERN SHADOW and STREAM OF LIGHT will be on pace and are not the worst in the race, but DE BOIS SCR) is the best roughie in the race @ $31. The 1st up run was too bad to be true and he ran 2nd and 3rd to River Lad and Thefifthhole early in his last prep.
