A great weekend of racing

Print Friendly

The heavens opened on Saturday morning in Sydney but the great Randwick track stood up beautifully! The story of the day was probably the decision of most jockeys to steer wide in the straight?? There are obviously days where that is the only option but it was simply wrong on Saturday. A majority of the winners actually took runs inside horses saving ground and made a few big name hoops look a bit silly. The strangest thing was as the day went on very few actually worked out what was happening and SACRED FALLS and KEITHS LEGACY (the last two) winners came from well back and got the rails to storm through and win.Thumbs up

I’m not sure if it was jockeys, trainers, owners or a mix of all but how they could let that happen was quite incredible. Anyway SACRED FALLS has been a bit underrated as I mentioned in the Doncaster preview and when the rain started falling he was going to be a force with the light weight. NORZITA was also outstanding having to push forward which is not her go and she fought hard. The superstar PIERRO was all guts and lost no admirers with his fighting 2nd.

*There was also some good racing on a drying Eagle Farm surface. The feature was taken out by FAMOUS SEAMUS who continues to improve and he can be a player in some of the decent races over the carnival. I thought RIVER LAD’s effort was again fantastic and Nat McCall has done a super job with him.

The race before that seen the return of BETTER THAN READY. He did what was expected with a strong win however  I think he is outstanding and I’m just not sure we have seen the best of him yet? He has a bit of a task coming back from the Newmarket prep but Kelly Schweida is on fire and you can’t question his plan.

*It was another great day for the Blackbook horses in ‘The Punt’ guide with FANTISHA saluting at big odds and a couple of others paying nice. She is a hard horse to catch but she seems to be racing at her best this time in work and hopefully she can continue into this prep where she will take on better horses.

We look forward to another big week on the site and the Blackbook horses and more interviews will be up through the week, so check back in! Have a good week.
