A look at Perth features

Print Friendly

I obviously want to focus on QLD again this weekend but thought I could just give a very quick preview of the Perth races and that may help you find a horse or two that you can throw in your quaddies.

*Both these races start at the 1600m mark which can be a deadly starting point. It is a short run to the first turn and can cause complications and horses looking for cover midfield can get posted 3 wide very easily.

THE RAILWAY- 1600m

FAT AL, WESTRIVER KEVYDONN and ROSIE ROCKET go forward and I think they get a few favours. FAT AL gets a tempo more to his liking he should be extremely hard to catch around Ascot. Forgive the Emirates run and his form before that was teriffic.

LUCKYGRAY is the horse they have to beat, even with the 58kg leveller!  He will be back and most likely wide so you don’t really want him getting pushed 10 wide on the turn but as long as he gets a trouble free run he will be in the finish and at the $3.50 I’m happy to be on.

They are my top two but I feel there are three good ‘roughies’ to give thoughts to. KING SAUL gets in with 53kg and was awesome 1st up. His 2nd up record is ordinary and that’s how he performed 2 weeks ago. A sharp turn around won’t surprise.

MR MOET is a stayer with a great 1st up record. He loves this track and he will put in the big bounds late. $41-51 is a nice price if he falls into first 4’s.

RANGER comes in 1st up but has had a few trials to ready for it. He has raced in all the good WFA races in Perth over the last couple of years and 53kg is a feather weight for a horse of his quality.

Numbers—       1-LUCKYGRAY

Others:       2,10,12,14

THE W.A GUINEAS- 1600m

Another race I have two top selections and two just behind them but barriers make this more open than it looks.

LUKE’S LUCK and ANTIQUE BELLE are well above average and I’d be very keen to back either with a good gate, unfortunately that hasn’t happened and you are hoping on luck in running.

LUKE’S LUCK gets back in his races anyway but he will be hoping for pace on and he won’t want to give too big of a start in the little Ascot straight.

ANTIQUE BELLE was a moral beaten last week and tries for redemption here. The worst possible gate for her was 1 and that is what she has drawn. She loves galloping room and likes to get to the outside. Pike can get a cheap run in transit but will need luck from the 600m home. If he gets it I think she is the winner but $3.40 is short when your praying for luck.

ACADEMUS is a good quality galloper from the Darley team and he gets a great run 5th-6th just off the pace and gets every chance.

The best roughie is REBELSON who is flying in easier grade. He races just behind the pace and will look the winner at the 200m. I’m keen to throw him in calculations.

Many other chances in a big field but I’ll be working around those mentioned.

On Top: 13- ANTIQUE BELLE

Others: 4-REBELSON, 1-LUKE’S LUCK, 2-ACADEMUS

*Tune into RadioTab for the interview Thursday where I will give some early weekend mail. I should have that article up late Thursday and ‘The Punt’ up Friday arvo.
