A wet sunny coast ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A very wet sunny coast and this track does not dry well. Expecting these races to be testing and for them to creep wider in the straight as the day goes on.

Been a very long carnival and no chance for a freshen up!!

**It’s extremely hard to get excited about these races on very wet tracks. To be honest I’ll be lucky to have three or four bets for the entire day**

RACE 1: * * *

Happy to feel the Ipswich race is the best lead up form and that JEWELIANA and KARAJA are the ones I want to be with. JEWELIANA has ticked the wet track box, gets a good run midfield and will again be one of the strongest late. Can continue the unbeaten run.

KARAJA meets her 1.5kg better off at the weights but does have the sticky gate and might have to spot a start again or be posted wide. May still get to best ground? All a bit of a query but she’s a good horse.

BETTER THAN MAGIC best of the roughies, good last start and has trialled on wet ground.

Best Roughie: 10-BETTER THAN MAGIC

RACE 2: * *

Top two are the best two horses and deserve the weight they have. TARZAN is incredibly good on his home track (won or placed in 12 of 14). Comes off a win and runs well again.

TYCOON ACE is in career best form. Two back was excellent on a Heavy track winning the bat out of hell at the GC. Last start he split Plague Stone and Amanaat. That form was franked with Amanaat running 2nd at Group 3 level last week.

Hardest To Beat: 1-TARZAN

RACE 3: * * * *

Gee i’d have been extremely keen SAVACOOL if the track was a better rating. The heavy track is a little query but do like the prep into this for her. She goes down in grade, up in weight but looks really well placed. She won 3rd up last prep and the one they all have to beat. UPDATE: Has opened $2.80 and to be fair there is no meat on the bone. Felt $4 would have been a price I’d take.

AQUA VITE handles all ground and is going better than it reads. Also drops in grade and jumps in weight. Finished alongside SAVACOOL two back and was ok last week. Has run well on the back up and looks hardest to beat.

HECTOPASCAL (SCR) has been hard to catch but she was strong through the line last start and has run good on a soft surface since joining Gollan.

RED COLOUR isn’t that good but is half duck!

*Backing SAVACOOL and saving AQUA VITE.

Hardest To Beat: 2-AQUA VITE,

RACE 4: * * *

ANGEL DANE looks the obvious, she is in a good stable and she has been in very good form all prep. Has a sticky gate and will need a good ride early but likely to end up on the right ground in the straight. She comes out of a harder race on Ipswich Cup day where she was 4th and a good effort. Back to 1400m on a wet track is ideal and she is a big track horse.

INTRINSIC comes off a 4th in a Listed race and is probably the best wet tracker in the race, must respect. Big winner this track/trip a few runs back in similar conditions.

BELLA SUCCESS a good win last start and a live hope, just feel she might want a drier surface. VICTORY EIGHT is a long time between wins but recent runs have been good and it can land in the money somewhere.

On top: 9-ANGEL DANE $4.80

RACE 6: * * *

BACCARAT BABY is just a beauty! She can race race anywhere, she handles all conditions and brings nothing but Group form into this. Live chance.

JUNIPAL was very good in the QLD guineas and his trainer said before the race he might have just needed the run. If he bounces out of that as expected he will be very hard to beat. he has only won the one race and it was on a heavy track, he won by a space. Just needs a good steer to get off the fence at the right time.

STATUESQUELY is a promising type in a good stable. Back from 1800m is fine and she will be the best of the on speed runners. She was brave last start finding plenty after leading at a fast tempo. Like the booking of Fradd.

ZAVANCE is a big strong filly who will be suited by a wet and testing mile. Just needs some cover from the tricky gate.

*Not much between these four, expecting a lot of these others to be beaten a loooong way.

On Top: 2-JUNIPAL $4.40

RACE 7: * *

Won’t bet here but feel the Lees pair will love this being a true slog on the wet ground. BIG DUKE is on the back up from the G3 3000m race and was good there. Rock hard fit and hard to beat. SAUNTER BOY fitter for recent racing and although i’d like to see him on better ground he can run well.

Have added IGRAINE here, Fradd on, gets it ok up front and might skip away on the wet track.

SOPRESSA would interest over 2200m but little worried about her late.

*Maybe tiny IGRAINE ew.

No real leaders and looks as though JAMAICAN RAIN will be right on speed and she’s the best wet tracker. Gate 2 this time of the day? Thats the query.

NICCANOVA has been poor but at $17 he goes in everything. CHAPTER AND VERSE may rid for luck, may stay wide with cover. He’ll like the big track, just can’t take a trick with gates.

*Too many to go over, leave me OUT.

RACE 9: *

With a capacity field you can always expect a decent tempo but I don’t think this will be over the top. BOOMTOWN LASS should be able to follow VERNAZZA across and then if horses like JAMI LADY (SCR)want to push on she can land in the box seat and be off the fence which could be key at this time of the day if they are coming down the crown of the track.

Both those leaders can be run down, VERNAZZA is a little query the last 100m but JAMI LADY brings some extremely strong formlines and she handles all conditions. Expecting her to give a nice kick and for BOOMTOWN LASS to either be able to grab her back and get a free tow into the straight for last crack or maybe be one pair further back.

GRANNY RED SHOES is the x-factor, she is a Listed winner who lost form but returns off a good trial behind G1 placegetter Savatiano

Selections : 7-4

Not keen to make any a best on this wet track.

Race 4 No.9- ANGEL DANE $4
