Blackbook + Grafton close!

*It is very hard to blackbook runners from the last couple of weeks because of really wet tracks. Horses will really mix their form over the coming weeks.

DANE PRINCESS- Can win a similar midweek event on this run. Tough, fighting on pace.

VIKING HEART- Screaming to win a race. Many will say a ‘non-winner’ but willing to go again while he is an e/w price.

SMAKATUS- I think many may say that was his turn and he could start nice odds again. Could be a horse that has come on with age.

CELEBRITY MISS- (WA) Ran best time of the 1200m races on the day and has more wins in store.

NADEEM LASS- (melb) In great form and really attacking the line. Follow mares in form.

MISS STELLE- (melb) Very nice youngster for Kent who will keep winning.

STORM BURST- (melb) Just needs a step up in trip and a drop of rain to win!

HENWOOD- (melb) No luck till the 75m mark when race was over. Can make amends.

*I also caught up with Nat McCall who is going as well as ever. She will be sending stable star RIVER LAD south to the Ramornie at Grafton next week. He was scratched from the wet track last weekend and will have a break after the Ramornie. Thought was given to the Grafton Guineas with LADY ECHELON but she is likely to stay in Brisbane for a race later in the month.Question mark

The Grafton carnival is a great country carnival and with a slight increase in prizemoney it should again be good quality, in my mind however they could really turn this carnival (or the main 2 days) into an incredible spectacle with just a few slight changes. Things like raising the Guineas $10k-15k to make it more of a feature, and possibly throw a car up for a trainer if they can win both features and 3 other races over the two days? You would get big stables actually target the carnival and the quality and prestige of the Wednesday and Thursday would go through the roof within 5 years. It seems as though they are trying to cash in with high entry prices and alcohol prices rising nearly every year but the focus should be on the horse flesh and keep the prices reasonable to get the punters in for both days, don’t price them out so they can only go one day?

That is just my thoughts and a couple of ideas but gee it has so much going for it you would love to see them build it up to what it could potentially be…
