BTC Cup Wrap Up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Just a quick wrap up today with the rain causing havoc and that will make this form extremely dodgy. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but the change to Eagle Farm was always going to be dangerous with any rain about. It is an extremely old track that is embarrassing when the rain is about. Unfortunately instead of talking up one of our feature days, all of Australia are talking about how ordinary our ‘home’ of racing is! All we hear is that we want to be competitive with NSW and VIC but until this track is ripped up we are getting further behind. I believe it is being looked at and since there has been a shake up there has been a big improvement so let’s hope it continues.Horse shoe

There will be horses improve 10 lengths back on a good surface next start and many that ran well will be flattered from yesterday’s conditions.

YOUR SONG looked outstanding blitzing the G1 field and who knows where he ends up. It did sound as though they were wrapped for the rain to hit but he does go good on top of the ground too. Forget BUFFERING went around, you couldn’t win from where he was and it was just a train wreck for him after missing the start. RAIN AFFAIR was a pass mark and not sure what to think of others.

The Rough Habit is the best lead up to the Derby and SURVIVED simply got too far back on the bias track and will improve next start. All honours to HAWKSPUR who was ridden a treat but SURVIVED almost looks a good thing in the Derby. USAINITY and LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY will also be better on top of the ground.

Kelso Wood is a bloke I know very little about and is a man of few words when he is interviewed but he has to be one of the top trainers in not just QLD but Australia. He continues to have probably the best strike rate in OZ and he got BENNY’S BUTTONS over the line 1st up after nearly 2 years off. That is incredible! He also had SOMEDAY off a 5 month break get nosed out 1st up on the heavy track. The bloke is a genius.

*Anyway after that day it can only get better for the Brisbane carnival.

*I will tell people to watch out for the Heathcote runners over the next month. Rob peaks them for our carnival and nearly all his horses raced very well yesterday on mostly unsuitable conditions.

**The all-important BLACKBOOKERS will be up tomorrow and even though it’s hard to find a few on heavy tracks we may be able to find some that will grow a leg back on top of the ground.
