Cairns Friday

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Very quick selections without the time to write previews in most races.

*For those new to Brissyraces we usually go over every Brisbane race in great detail but just too busy with Cairns, so smaller previews*

Race 1:

*There is a reason these are maidens.

POETIC PEARL can sit right on speed but the last 50m is heart in mouth material. EDITH MARGERAT the likely fav and should be the winner but has the wide gate and apprentice so not sure I could fall into here.

On Top: 8-POETIC PEARL

Hardest To Beat: EDITH MARGERET

Race 2:

5/9,10,11/9,10,11.

Neds 250 300

Race 3:

The three leaders have all got apprentices on and a chance they go very hard in front. Of those on speed PLATINUM TYCOON is the best horse and should look the winner. Has won 10 of 22 and even though beaten here last start he was very brave.

The swooper and value could be MAN AROUND TOWN, a nice horse on his day and suited by a fast tempo. Blinkers go on and Wiseman can stay in touch he can sprint well late.

On Top: 1-PLATINUM TYCOON $2,  4-MAN AROUND TOWN $11

Race 4:

Looks as though MR BOXVALE can lead as he likes here and with someone like Whiteley on top you have to respect him even more. Been in great form and the only query is the 6kg jump in the weights.

Like horses dropping in grade and although DAZZLING PRIDE hasn’t exactly been great this is a really nice drop in grade after a freshen up and Taylor takes the ride, could be the value runner.

BEST HOFFA the obvious off recent form, won here two back before hitting the line last last start behind a horse that has won again since. Looks well placed and just needs a good ride from the gate.

Value: 3-DAZZLING PRIDE $26

Hardest To Beat: 2-MR BOXVALE,  4-BEST HOFFA

Race 5:

Not a crazy tempo for the 950m but genuine enough.

EVERY FRIDAY returns and although I’d rather a senior on board I feel the good gate means the 3kg apprentice can land in the first 2-3 pairs and get the right run, he is a big son of Hidden Dragon and should look the winner at the 100m.

The swooper should be TECZA, been in very good form but the wide gate is a concern. Thompson probably looks for cover and has the last crack, I’d be concerned with most other jocks but he’ll give it every chance.

SAMUEL JAMES, gate 1 and Whiteley for Manzellman might be the one to lead and give a kick.

On Top:  8-EVERY FRIDAY $11

Hardest to beat:  6-TECZA, 5-SAMUEL JAMES

Race 6:

Probably looks the best of the day HUNTER CAULFIELD (depending on what price they bet). I’ll take anything around the $2.50 mark. THE CHEETAH and MISC go forward and run them along while Thompson can park HUNTER CAULFIELD right behind them and get a nice tow into the race on the back of whichever one he chooses. Feel he can run over them and happy to think the two leaders can land around the money also.

On Top:  1-HUNTER CAULFIELD *

Next Best: 4-MISC, 2-THE CHEETAH

Race 7:

Very hard way to finish the day. I’ve got a hot tempo here and focusing on three who will all hit the line hard late but will need luck in running from poor gates.

CAPTAIN THE WORLD gets back and has absolutely attacked the line late his last two, the issue is 1 win and 11 placings to his name, needs to turn that around.

CENTRE RED has been very consistent around the bm60 range and like the run last start where he got within 0.5L of Toff Rocks, that’s good enough to win this.

Feel POWER OF DIVAS could be the best horse in the race, she returns from a spell and has the horror gate but Whiteley steers and if he can find some cover she can finish hard.

On Top: 9-POWER OF DIVAS $10

Hardest To Beat: 2-CAPTAIN THE WORLD, 3-CENTRE RED
