Caulfield wrap up + news

It’s probably best if we have a bit of a look at what went on interstate as well.

ATLANTIC JEWEL was at her devastating best in the Caulfield stakes. As for putting to rest the question over a tough 2000m I’m not sure that’s totally out of the picture. They simply walked, walked and walked some more early on and they were never going to be able to match her sprint late. Personally I think she will get the Cox plate 2040m but she won’t get it run how she did on the weekend, tough front running horses like PUISSANCE DE LUNE will be hard to run down. This is set to be a cracking edition of the Cox plate (most are!)

SOLZHENITSYN got the dream run in the Toorak and he was never getting beaten when Nash had him 5th with cover about 5L off the pace. He simply peeled out, put him into the race a little bit earlier and that was the key. There is talk of him now heading to the Mackinnon on Derby Day over 2000m but only time will tell.newspaper

UNPRETENTIOUS got the job done, albeit against the easiest field he will meet this time in. Even though this was a close event, Unpretentious has so much upside and he will be competitive in anything he contests, so do not sell him short.

LITTLE JOHN had plenty of support in the Group 1 Guineas and he was too good. A great ride and a great win. The unlucky story was the kiwi EL ROCA who found trouble the first 200m of the straight. DIVINE CALLING and SHAMUS AWARD were also very good runs to fill the placings.

I was taken by the win of AEROBATICS. She may well be right at her best this time in, and I believe Snowden may have even commented on that. She let down incredibly well and if she can reproduce that then better wins are in store.

Let’s not forget MISSY LONGSTOCKING the Queenslander who sat wide and dominated the southern horses in her race. Not sure how she goes in the harder events over the carnival but what a thrill for the owners!

**In other news it looks as though FAWKNER could be Lloyd Williams only runner in the Caulfield Cup and weights will be raised around 1.5kg.

**Classy mare APPEARANCE is out to the paddock and won’t be seen again in the spring.

*Our Blackbooker PAKAL took out the Cranbourne Cup yesterday after Boss gave it a gem of a ride from gate 1.

**SIZZLING looks to be headed to the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day.
