Divine to make her mark in the City

We have had a lot of North Queensland horses come to town of late and unfortunately a lot have not lived up to expectations. There was a time that the ‘northies’ would come down, win a heap of races and duck home with the cash. The tide will turn and that trend will start again shortly I feel.

The horse that may kick start the northern attack is a classy filly that was really unlucky last week in Divine City. She is a daughter of Ferocity and trained by Garnett Taylor who has a team of around 35 out of his Rockhampton base. This filly has a terrific race record that includes a race in November where she broke the track record running 1:08:74 for the 1200m at Rockhampton. On the weekend she was only beaten 3.9L and that was a great effort when you see the replay.

On the weekend she fell out of the gates and got a long way back. When Brad Stewart went searching for runs she was impeded and her chances were gone as the other horses were making their runs. Garnett was happy enough with her runs and hopes to get her into some of the good class races coming up. “I thought it was a good run, she is a better mare when she can be ridden on the outside of horses, if she can make her run down the outside she seems to go a bit better. We will try to get into the three year old Magic Millions race (1400m) if we can. If I can get her in the Vo Rogue (1350m -31st Dec) that’s the race I would like to get her into if she has enough prize money.” Taylor told us.

She is well worth following as she can run time and if she can get some pace on she can really rattle late. Garnett is down at the Sunshine Coast at the moment with a handful of horses and he does have a few other handy horses in his care at the moment. He mentioned Otto’s Delight as one of them, and interestingly he also has Feuer Drache who is a half brother to Bold Glance and has three wins and a second from his last four starts for Garnett, so watch out over the next couple of weeks for him to step out.

Garnett is also the father of talented jockey Alisha Taylor, and she has been aboard Feuer Drache and Divine City for most of their runs. He is a very nice bloke and I wish him and his team the best of luck while they are down. My money is that he may just be the man who kicks things off for the northern visitors and gets the ball rolling for some more victories in town.

He does have a website for those who would like to check it out http://garnetttaylorracing.com.au/
