Doncaster preview

Doncaster time is here again and this years edition is a cracker with a lot of chances to roll the red hot favourite- More Joyous. You can make a place claim for almost every runner.
There are usually two types of horses that win a Doncaster, an out and out champion like More Joyous. Or the in form horse that has beat the handicapper.

I will try to give a little insight into each horse – I have always been against it, but we will see how we go

MORE JOYOUS: Has the topweight of 57kg which is WFA and will have to be every bit as good as we think she is to win it. People are talking Sunline but I think she has a way to go yet to be talked about like that, but this can be a step towards it. She is flying, has a great gate, Rawiller aboard and the distance is perfect. Deserved favourite and probably wins, but the $2.20 is too short for me in a race of this quality.

DANLEIGH: Underrated horse who looked a touch disappointing last start but Bowman was happy enough and stays on. He is creeping under the radar and is a must in multiples in my mind. Can pull out a blinder on his day and from the good draw can sit midfield and have the last crack at them. Will be coming late.

WALL STREET: I have time for this bloke, but at the weights and on his last run he would have to improve lengths..

CAPTAIN SONADOR: (C’mon QUEENSLANDER!) One of my best smokies! Think his last run was one of the best in the George Ryder when he was coming of a long break and one run on a heavy track. He will take improvement from that, and Randwick 1600m is what he is looking for. I think with luck he could very well weigh in at some huge odds. $51 currently..

DAO DAO: Was flying leading into the George Ryder but was only ok there? The drop to handicap is definitely his go. Barrier 18 makes it hard to see where he sits in the run? 3 wide? With luck I wouldn’t write him off as a place chance.

CENTENNIAL PARK: Another who was flying but not so good in the George Ryder. He surely goes right back from (17) and will need luck to get through and challenge. The expected showers will help as his legs have had issues and like the sting out.

LOVE CONQUERS ALL: Happy to admit im not sure what to do with this bloke? Got smacked by More Joyous but still ran ok. Then ran a screamer in the G-R and drops 6kg going into his grand final! Munce has gate 7 to work with, and he should be right up on the pace. Has to be considered?

SACRED CHOICE: They wont get as much rain as they did in Flemington when she rolled Typhoon Tracy, but do not under estimate this mare. She is a serious horse and is a group 1 winner. She will get back and need a pinch of luck too, but at big odds I like her as a horse for exotics and she is one I even give a winning chance to. Forget her last run over 2000m in a small field, a fast run 1600m on a damp track is her go- tick, tick, tick. Good chance.

ALOHA: This is one of two horses I see as having beat the handicapper. She won the group 1 Coolmore two starts ago and then at WFA in G-R she ran really well to just get beat. Sting out is great, barrier is great, Boss could win on a broomstick at the moment. She can go forward, but barrier 11 may be just a little hurdle to overcome as there is a little pace underneath. She is a massive winning chance dropping 5.5kg from her last run. If you have been on her why jump off now?

ILOVETHISCITY: Lots of the brissyraces members would know I tipped this bloke about two months ago in this race @ $31 and I was wrapped with how he has been going. His last two runs have had me questioning his ability at a pressure 1600m and to run it right out? He seems as though 1500m is perfect but the last 100m may catch him out. In saying that he gets 51.5kg and will probably go back and try to get a tow into the race coming to the 600m mark. He can run well, but this race will decide if he is a true miler. Maybe?

TRIPLE ELEGANCE: He is the way I will be going. He has been low level flying! Waller has done a super job and gets him in dropping 7.5kg from his great G-R run where he was wide the whole way. Cassidy knows him very well and just sits pretty till the 200m every start and releases him and he explodes! $6.50 is a good e/w price in my mind, and with gate (6) I am sure he gets the gun run and gets every chance to beat More Joyous. Can he do it? At that price I am willing to have a little go that says he might. He will definitely give you a sight.

PALACIO DE CRISTAL: Begg has been very happy with her this time in and she has had no luck with wet tracks. The trainer and every punter knows she is a ‘duffer’ in the wet, so if the rain comes I don’t think she can win. If it dry, on her best she can fall into a place.

PURENESS: Waterhouse has this bloke primed for a great run. He has improved each run and is more a grinder than a great change of speed. He will sit behind More Joyous (If he jumps clean- it is an issue) and he will just keep coming all the way through the post. Not sure what to do with him as he can do a few things wrong, but I do think he is a winning chance as he is on the upward spiral with no weight on his back. Good horse.

BOLD GLANCE:
The QLD hope, ran really well after being wide in the prelude last week. I would usually question him in a race like this, but bleeding MAROON and with gate 3 I think and hope he can run a cheeky race.

BRILLIANT LIGHT: Have followed him this prep and has been $$ for him each run! I’ve had enough as he has disappointed in nearly every run.

KEEPIN THE DREAM: When he wins it is always at about $60. Surely not again?

SYREON: Flying, will go to the front, but Doncaster is a lot harder than he has been contesting…

HAPPY HIPPY; Another that pops up at huge odds, but would rather her in a fillies and mares race.

GIBBO’S DONCASTER SELECTIONS:

11- TRIPLE ELEGANCE

1- MORE JOYOUS

9-   ALOHA

4- CAPTAIN SONADOR

13- PURENESS

That is the Doncaster through my eyes, so do what you please with my thoughts. The members would know we blackbooked STREAMA after her last run and she is in early and around the $2.80 mark at the moment, so maybe keep an eye on her as her last run was very good without much luck..

Good luck if you have a punt #bet responsibly.

A shorter version of “The Punt” will go up Friday so check in and have a glance at the best bets..
