Doomben 10,000 day – ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well we won’t be able to top last weekend with multiple big priced winners and 2/2 Sunday to top it off but hopefully we can be making a profit again. Thanks to the numerous people who touched base via email or social media after they ended up with plenty of winnings.

Looks a great days racing and a few at value again this week.

Plenty of media engagements again, be sure to follow the BRC social media pages for video updates

Race 1:

Look TANGO RAIN is the odds-on pop, no real knock other than the fact he doesn’t attack the line, yes that’s because he goes hard but I just like seeing them strong through the line, he was smashed in the market and everyone said the gelding operation would change him but he dished out more of the smae. Even with this track suiting him perfectly I can’t take $1.80.

HAVASAY was airborne last prep, trialled well before the G2 run where he was ok last time. He will get back but fly late, very hard to beat. IN TIMES OF WAR $5 is the one who will get out after the fav and just a matter if she can hold off HAVASAY.

*Good race, backing HAVASAY and IN TIMES OF WAR

On Top: 2-HAVASAY $4.60

Hardest To Beat: 13-IN TIMES OF WAR,  12-TANGO RAIN

Race 2:

URBAN KNIGHT gets a clever claim and can be on speed. If he gets it ok in front he can be very hard to catch at $12 might be a bet.

OINK is the one I’m keen on though, think he can get out after the leader and class will kick in. He has backed up in 7 days before and performed well, he just bumped into a very good one last week. Can make amends!

CADOGAN, MANAYA and EMINENT the others who can land in trifecta’s.

On Top: 4-OINK $4

Hardest To Beat: 1-URBAN KNIGHT $12,  7-EMINENT, 14-CADOGAN

Race 3:

Never keen on the girls having to give the boys weight but PAYROLL carried 60.5kg here fresh when narrowly beaten, then went to the Sydney G1 behind Alizee, forget that and this is a big drop in grade. $7 looks well over the odds and she is the horse they all have to beat.

SHEISWHATSHEIS drops 6.5kg on last run, she is 3rd up and fitter as well as getting Lloyd on top, all big ticks. AQUA VITE can’t go any better than he is and gets a nice gate for a gun run. HOPFGARTEN right up to these if he gets a good ride.

*Don’t want to overthink this, backing PAYROLL at the good price.

On Top: 3- PAYROLL $7

Race 4:

Another race I don’t want to go too deep into, just feel RISING RED is the most promising horse, he wasn’t given a good steer last time but gets Brown on here. Can cross from the bad gate and let a few go to get the gun run. Just looks well over the odds at $13 in early markets, I’m on e/w.

GOATHLAND was excellent for the Waugh stable and is one who is pretty well placed here.

Value: 6-RISING RED $13

Hardest To Beat:  12-GOATHLAND

Neds big $500

Race 5:

High speed and good quality race this! Big fan of SIZZLING ACE, I have been on all four career runs and it’s been hard to watch. She got a few ordinary steers from Jeff until he got the coke and sars off her and Bayliss rode her a treat last time but over the short trip she needed one more stride.

With the high tempo he can sit behind them and be the strongest late, again at double figure odds. 1,3,4,9 the others for trifecta’s.

Value:  11-SIZZLING ACE e/w $11

Race 6:

The three horses going extremely are MISHANI BULLITT, SNITZ and FEMME FIREBALL, however this is nearly a carbon copy of the race a fortnight ago where there was no speed and they were all back or wide and not a hope! Unfortunately if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got (So if they don’t change tactics the same rubbish will happen and they can say how unlucky they were) ONENESS leads, WARRANTY is behind it on the fence and MARSUPIAL gets all the favours again, they will be around the money but I might have to update this race closer to Saturday.

Race 7:

Hard to see anything turning the tables on TORVILL from the princess stakes, she was wide and powered away from them. Maybe CORAL COAST draws better and had the best late sectionals that race so some hope. PLAY THAT HOPE looks a genuine stayer who needs 2000m+. The up and comer might be YOUNGSTAR for the Waller camp, she has a good gate and McEvoy to ride, beware!

On Top:  14-YOUNGSTAR $4.50

Hardest To Beat: 1-TORVILL,  15, CORAL COAST,  12-PLAY THAT SONG

Race 8: The KIRIN DOOMBEN 10,000

REDZEL returns to defend his crown. He is just the perfect race horse, even with a very hot speed here he has tactical speed to get himself out of trouble and may end up with the best run in the race. The $2.30 might be a bit short for me but I think he wins. Away from him luck is going to play a Massive part! IN HER TIME is the next best horse but she is a chance of being posted three wide, if she gets any luck at all she will be right in the finish.

Our bloke CARE TO THINK has a horrible gate again, he’ll go back and need luck but if he gets it a win at $21 wouldn’t surprise. IMPENDING, ENGLISH and maybe SPEITH next best in one of the best 10,000’s I can remember.

On Top: 1-REDZEL

Hardest To Beat: 4-CARE TO THINK $21,  12-IN HER TIME, 13-ENGLISH $17

Race 9:

Looks a two horse race to finish the day. HIGHER GROUND continues to improve and two career best runs have been at 1900m+ which is a great pointer to this. He is on the upward spiral and the win over Tangled was excellent last start.

DARK DREAM hit a flat spot on the corner last time but jockey change and out to this trip suits. He attacks the line and from the gate will go forward and sit first four throughout. Others a hope of filling the placings are OMINECA , SALSAMOR and LUCKY FOR ALL.

Next Best:  13-OMINECA
