Doomben Cup Day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Great day out at Doomben last Saturday, it’s been an extremely busy week but I like this card and feel there are some good bets. Here is the run down.

Remember it’s FREE so pass onto to anyone heading to the track or having a bet!

*I do have a more in depth look at the races at www.theraceclub.com.au where you also get NSW and VIC previews and live mounting yard updates throughout the day. All cheaper than a cup of coffee for those wanting to get a bit more fair dinkum.

Race 1:

Short and sweet here, don’t really like the race and most of the chances in my eyes will settle back and need luck which is far from ideal. TAN TAT DIAMOND, SONY LEGEND and TAILLEVENT are the three that interest me and all a bit off odds. TAILLEVENT is the one I took the early $21 about as i feel he was every bit as good as SONY LEGEND last time and was twice the price. He can sit a little closer from the good gate. SONY LEGEND fitter for recent racing and sure to be strong late. TAN TAT DIAMOND was very impressive fresh and just needs luck in running.

Just note KIMBERLEY STAR’s form says she was beaten a long way but Jeff sat up and she lost many lengths late so it’s not as bad as it reads. She is a better horse with the sting out though.

Roughie: 12-TAILLEVENT $16

Others: 1-SONY LEGEND $12,  1-TAN TAT DIAMOND $6

Race 2:

Doesn’t interest me much either, feel the favs are the ones to beat but I can live without a bet.

They will have to be positive A SHIN ROOK, DIVINE UNICORN is on the way up and will be the first to set out chasing.

*Happy to let them go around at the prices.

Race 3:

Well LET’S PARTY MARTY is one of the bigger myths in QLD racing for mine but can come up with an excuse. There will be no excuse here, the stable have found form, he gets the perfect gate over a track and trip that suits. Already been well backed but he can win without me as I’m in front from not backing him his last few where he has run 2nd at short odds.

I have a love/hate relationship with NO ANNAMOSSITY, I love backing him, he hates winning for me! The horse was enormous fresh and has won or placed in 6 of 8 at Doomben. Bit of luck in running and he can win.

Have been waiting for FIT FOR PURPOSE, he is ready to win and he has again drawn a horror gate!!!

CADOGAN joined the Edmonds camp, after spotting them an impossible start at Ipswich they then went to Tamworth and put Orman on to get the right result. His last 200m and 400m splits were very good there and from a decent gate he looks well over the odds at $16.

*Have backed CADOGEN at the price and may quinella with NO ANNIMOSSITY and LETS PARTY MARTY

Roughie: 19-CADOGAN $16

Hardest To Beat: 2-NO ANNIMOSSITY,  14-LETS PARTY MARTY

Race 4:

SIZZLING BELLE was stopped in her tracks when running into it last week. You simply have to forgive that run, Walker goes on and I’d be looking at runs like the midfield finish in the G1 Golden Slipper.

EAWASE is a filly with some upside, she will get back from the gate but sure to be one of the strongest late. GRANNY RED SHOES is a little over the odds but has the sticky gate. CLOCKWISE and SHAMURT maybe next best.

*SIZZLING BELLE should be very hard to beat.

On Top:  1-SIZZLING BELLE $3.40

Hardest To Beat: 6-EWASE

Race 5:

Not a race I’m as keen on. Liked TIYATROLANI in the bat out of hell race where wide and strong late. She may have come back a stronger horse. Can be right behind the speed from the good gate and run well.

IN HIS STRIDE could be the best value at $14, he is going as well as he can and won a decent race last start.

KHALAMA, GUN CASE and SAVANNA AMOUR all chances in an even race.

*Not that keen but I’d throw IN HIS STRIDE into exotics.

Race 6:

Keen here.

CHAUFFEUR has only won the one race but took on the cream of the crop last prep and was very good in three of his four runs that prep. Has had the gear changes here but this is a massive drop in grade from top shelf Group 1 races to a set weights 3yr old plate at Doomben! Looks the one to beat clearly.

SCALLOPINI is my saving bet as he is untapped and went through the grades in good form races last prep. He has trialled well and he will look the winner at the 150m.

WINTER BRIDE the next best off a very good recent trial and was stakes placed last prep.

*Backing CHAUFFER, saving SCALLOPINI and feel WINTER BRIDE next best.

On Top:  1-CHAUFFEUR $5

Next Best: 6-SCALLOPINI $8,  11-WINTER BRIDE

Good speed with I’M A RIPPA leading and TEST THE WORLD up there also.

Feel the $6.50 is a good price about MR SNEAKY but there was an alarming drift before him running poorly last start so maybe watch the money trail. He was one of the favs for the Stradbroke 5 weeks ago and many have sacked him off that heavy track run and I feel they have jumped ship too soon.  He can sit midfield and let rip late.

ULMANN the main danger and fair price at $10. Was good in the Wangoom last start and even with the 59kg he can settle back and as long as you can make ground he’ll be strong late.

The leaders I’M A RIPPA and TEST THE WORLD are both handy and can land in the money.

*Backing MR SNEAKY.

On Top:3- MR SNEAKY $6.50

Hardest To Beat: 1-ULMANN,  12-I’M A RIPPA,  13-TEST THE WORLD

Got to have an opinion in this game and mine is that the Hollindale isn’t the best formline leading into this. OREGANS DAY was a fair and square winner there so deserves to be right in the market but $4 is short. She will be there somewhere but feel ABBEY MARIE was better than her in the Queen of the turf when held up and she is $18 here! She has had a nice trial over 1000m at Murwillumbah and with sprint in her legs, McGillivray to ride and gate 5 I feel she is well over the odds.

AMBITIOUS the ex Japanese horse has shown plenty over here, was good in the G1 Tanced and will push forward here. Could be the place to be with not a lot of tempo and he will be around the money.

LIFE LESS ORDINARY is in career best form, he was excellent at Flemington before blowing them away at Wagga. He just needs a good ride from a bad gate.SATONO RASEN was good in the Hollindale and COMIN’ THROUGH was a forgive off a horrible ride.

*Keen on ABBEY MARIE at the $18

On Top:   13-ABBEY MARIE

Hardest To Beat: 3-AMBITIOUS,  8-LIFE LESS ORDINARY,  12-OREGAN’S DAY

Not many horses going better than this girl ANATOLA. They were running quick times all day at the GC but she was exceptional up on speed and will again go hard and be the horse to catch. She goes up 4.5kg and DON’TBABYLON may be a pest on her inside but doubt they can hold out ANATOLA.

If they do go hard SWAMPLAND will be the best of the swoopers, she has run the fastest last 200m in 7 of her last 10 runs, quite amazing. She is the value and CONCHITA goes in trifecta’s also.

RIVER RACER gets back to Doomben, a track she has won or placed in 7 of 8.

*ANATOLA the one the all have to catch, no meat on the bone at $2. Might have a 1×3 bet on SWAMPLAND at the $12

On Top:  2-ANATOLA  + 4-SWAMPLAND $12

Next Best:15-CONCHITA,  11-RIVER RACER
