Doomben- George Moore day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hot, dry weather and I’m expecting this track to dry out and play to fence/front late in the day.

*PREVIEW UPDATED 9am SATURDAY.

Race 1:

Did like the trial of AVNO DOUBT when the blinkers went on. Looks a ready made 2yr old with good speed! Don’t think they will be able to stop her crossing and Doomben looks ideal. Happy to take the $5.50 on offer as I type. She goes on top. DUSTY TYCOON not only has race experience, he won on debut and looked good.

Couple of Toowoomba horses in good stables unseen at official trials. That’s a massive query.

On Top: 7-AVNO DOUBT $5.50

Hardest To Beat: 4-DUSTY TYCOON

Race 2:

SO DAPPER and SIMPLY SACRED are the two with upside and they are the type of horses i like to back. Being a benchmarck it gives the old heads like TROMELSCHLAGEN and FABULOHN a chance I guess.

SIMPLY SACRED bolted in fresh then had no luck before getting out late and exploding to win again 2nd up. Out to the mile ideal and just needs a little luck early from the gate.

SO DAPPER pissed in over the 1800m last start and looked as though 2000m was on the agenda. I usually love horses coming back in trip, I’m a little surprised they have with this horse though. Has a touch of class and sure to look the winner.

On top: 14-SIMPLY SACRED + 6-SO DAPPER

Next Best: 3-4-9

Race 3:

Great stuff having a country race but i’ve never bet into these races and don’t think i ever will. Bugger all replays available, impossible to line it all up so no interest in this at all to be honest with you.

Good luck to those involved though.

Race 4:

Another I’m staying out of. Had been waiting to see where SNAZZ ‘N’ CHARM was going to go but he’s a maiden who has drawn poorly!

Can make a case for nearly every runner and they aren’t races I like punting into.

Race 5:

Got small shares in a couple here so never ideal. (BOOMTOWN LASS and LIFESAVER)

BOOMTOWN LASS has just improved every prep, she’s been outstanding on speed in fast run races. If she ever gets a cheapish lead she will win a good race. From the gate it’s mission impossible for her.

LIFESAVER gets the gun run, likely 1/1 and that is perfect. He was very good last start and back to 1110 ideal.

ROCK BEAT is a horse I’ve always had time for and even though he lands midfield this sets up with good speed and he will rocket late. Good win fresh and like the booking of Nothdurft.

BRING IT HOME POP and ARCHERS PARADOX are the leaders, they can give a sight on a track that should suit.

*Had RB on top but with LIFESAVER double the price Ill just back him e/w at $7.50

On Top: 6-LIFESAVER $7.50 ew

Hardest To Beat: 4-ROCK BEAT $3.40

Boomtown Lass

Race 6:

Feel FIGHTING TEO is going as well as ever off the few runs back. Still has the apprentice and a decent weight. Also turned his head to the side in the straight last start, not the biggest deal, I just don’t think it’s ideal and is just a little question on these hard tracks. READY FOR DANGER is airborne and the Syd win was excellent! He’s just got a horrible record this track.

*No confidence so i’ll watch on from afar i think.

Race 7:

TAB went up $15 KARANJA and at that price i’d have had a decent bet, it was snapped up quickly and $9 is about the right price. She trialled very well at Ballina leading into this. Would have rathered 1000-1100m fresh, she does however get a good gate to get a soft run.

GEM OF SCOTLAND suited and the good gate ideal for her also. Class runner and the one to beat.

Just risking most of these from wide gates. Love the way SUGAR BOOM is going but I’d lover her at 1000m. If the tracks playing to the front it’s an obvious help for her.

On Top: 1-GEM OF SCOTLAND

Hardest to Beat: 6-KARAJA, 7-SUGAR BOOM

Race 8:

Big fan of OUTBACK BARBIE but have to take her on from the gate. They will come out positive but I have no idea where she slots in. 3 wide with cover if lucky.

Felt on a track that didn’t suit CHAPTER AND VERSE was excellent fresh. Draw inside again and they have to make use of the gate. No need to go silly, just have to land in front of midfield. Yet to win on the small track is the little query.

I’M A RIPPA gets conditions to suit, hard fast track and a decent gate. Plenty of speed on here but they will have to go bloody quick to cross him! He was extremely brave fresh and expect the same here.

Best roughie could be SHARPE HUSSLER, last two have been great, this doesn’t set up well as he will spot them such a big start on leaders track.

On Top: 10-CHAPTER AND VERSE $5.50

Hardest To Beat: 3-I’M A RIPPA $9.50, 7-OUTBACK BARBIE

Race 9:

Gee this is a good race to finish. Massive fan of MACEWEN he’s been exceptionally good to me his last couple of preps. He’s a much better horse over the road, he was able to lead last time off a slow tempo in a small field, this doesn’t set up as well and I’m not in his corner today.

SNITZ found form with everything in his favour last start, had to like the way he went about it though. Two back he was 3rd behind Tambo’s Mate and Deep Image, they are flying, so last start wasn’t a fluke. Goes forward again and very hard to beat.

Up in grade off a loss for SOXAGON, he can still win. Light weight, ride him for the spot behind the leader, peel off their backs early, go for home, get the backmarkers off the bit and I think that/s the way to ride him. Wouldn’t say he didn’t run the mile last start (2nd best L200) just think they were a bit pretty and he was good through the line. Rock hard fit now.

Been waiting for TRAIL OF GLORY, she’s going better than it reads, not sure this is the right race for her but at $21 I’m scared to say no!

*Update- Surprised Soxagon is so short to be honest.

On Top: 12-SOXAGON

Hardest To beat: 4-SNITZ, 3-MACEWEN,

Roughie: 11-TRAIL OF GLORY $21
