Welcome to Brissyraces weekend on ‘The Punt’. Very little about this program excites me and consideration should be given to keeping your cash in your pocket till next week.
We have had a good run and that has coincided with GOOD tracks and weather… That all changes here!!
*As usual this is simply my view of the weekend races, feel free to do what you want with the info, there is no cost, no betting strategies so feel free to print off or send to racing friends!
*Prices are www.tatts.com prices at time of typing*
BLACKBOOK Runners:
SATURDAY, 29 MARCH 2014
Le Cap – Doomben R3 No.5 (1200m):
Harada Bay – Doomben R5 No.3 (1615m):
Heza Bobby Dazzler – Doomben R6 No.3 (1200m): Wet track?
Crackerjet – Doomben R8 No.17 (1350m):
Race 1:
We don’t even know if ¾ of the field will even handle a wet track so it is a lottery.
I have simply landed on EXECUTED as he is a nice horse who will sit on speed (which I think will be an advantage early) and dam is by Easy Rocking.
You can throw a dart at them but I couldn’t convince myself to be betting up in this.
COMBATANT was good winning by 5L but the time was not flash and although he can win I don’t like the odds…
On Top: 2- EXECUTED (I won’t take short odds)
Race 2:
Again, this looks ordinary. I reckon BEACH BABE would give them a spanking on a dry surface and she still might in the wet but it is a query.
ELUSIVE STORM has wet track form and is a consistent type capable of winning here.
I am simply looking for value and GALLINARI finally draws a gate. She hasn’t had much luck but can get the run of the race here and every chance to get into the money somewhere at big odds.
TEAR IT UP has far more ability than most of these but she has never really lived up to what many thought she could do?
Value: 9- GALLINARI
Next Best: 6- TEAR IT UP
Race 3:
LE CAP should seriously be leading them up here and should take care of them. What price do they offer up?? I am guessing it will not be flash so it is just a question of whether you want to gamble on silly odds on a wet surface?
ROYAL SHOUT will spot them a start but if the track allows you to make ground and win he will be strong late.
PURE WHISPER may be the best of the rest but they look an even bunch behind the fav.
On Top: 5- LE CAP
Race 4:
We always thought MARGINS was going to be an outstanding stayer but I feel this is as far as he wants, or maybe even too far. His class should take him a long way here but I’d have loved to see the prep based around 16-1800m. He does handle the sting out and will be hard to roll.
SECRET GARDEN is simply not one of my horses, I can’t catch her! IN saying that, this is the most suitable race she has been in for a while. Rock hard fit with a little freshen, 2100m on a wet track. If she doesn’t produce here she never will! She has been in the money 3 of her 5 starts this track/trip and 6 of 11 on wet tracks.
Outside of them, your guess is as good as mine but they are my top two.
Look for money to come for the NSW mudlark BRAVE ALI.
On Top: 3- SECRET GARDEN + 1- MARGINS
Race 5:
This really is RENEWED VITALITY’s go, heavy track and 1615m around Doomben on a wet track. Unfortunately he is not one of mine and I am convinced he is half cat. He goes in all exotics but I’m not on the win.
If they are clever a few can boot up enough to make RENEWED VITALITY work a bit extra and that may also make it harder for him to come back under Bell and get him over racing yet again.
I think everyone knows the opinion I have of HARADA BAY and he proved us right with an incredible win at the Gold Coast last start. He handles conditions and Browne take the ride. He should suit this horse and he is the one to beat but my only concern is how the track is playing?? Can you make ground and win? If so he will be the one to beat.
HEART OF MANY is the horse who can sit up on the speed or sit directly behind for Munce and that should be an advantage. Munce will be aggressive on the corner I am sure and try to put a couple more lengths on them and make the task very hard for HARADA BAY and co.
*How is track playing? 1,3,6 the main players.
On Top: 6- HEART OF MANY
Hardest To Beat: 1- RENEWED VITALITY
Race 6:
A really fine line between looking for fit horses on the wet track and those resuming who will handle the track…
Although RED DAZZLER isn’t known for wet trackers HEZA BOBBY DAZZLER is in great form and after the claim he should again get in ok and finish hard. Not a great gate and again the track condition is key.
RUDY is a dead set swimmer who resumes. He may give away a little start but he thrives on this surface. He nearly won over 1000m last prep so prepared to give him a chance here on this surface 1st up.
PRIMAL FLIGHT has won by 5L and 6L his last two in easy grade, should measure up here and has run well on a SLOW surface.
HOTEL PARADISO, HIT THE ROAD JACK, PRUSSIAN HEART and NEUCHWANSTEIN all have some sort of wet form, and I feel FRIENDLY DRAGON is underrated.
*Leaning RUDY but this looks very tough.
On Top: 1- RUDY
Race 7:
BENNYS BUTTONS the class runner and unbeaten on heavy ground. Again I am afraid of what price he may get to?
BLACK MAGIC is a nice mare returning and is bred to swim. Although I’d like a rock hard fit horse in these conditions I still expect her to go close with the feather weight 51kg.
TIME TO PLUNDER has some wet credentials and you just have to be forgiving of last run.
HOUR OF PERIL has not produced much for a long time but I would respect any money for him as he is an exceptional wet tracker.
THAT’S THE ONE has a class edge on these but is having 1st run for new stable and I am not sure why that is. He is a genuine group horse and again respect any money trails.
On Top: 1- BENNYS BUTTONS
Next Best: 6- BLACK MAGIC, 13- TIME TO PLUNDER, 3- THAT’S THE ONE
Race 8:
Believe it or not this should be a fair betting race with around 5 clear chances.
JUST A PEARLA ran really well behind BUAKAW last week and has solid wet form. Will roll forward and be hard to beat.
DOUGHTY needs it wet to produce his best and who knows, gate 16 may be ok late in the day? I am sure there will be a stack of scratchings.
CLEAVER hasn’t won on a wet track but is in career best form and on breeding should be ok.
BUSHY is a horse who has promised a bit and won well first up the other week, again some hope here. RIVER SPIRIT excels in the mud and is another who pushes forward.
TAMBO’S JEWEL is flying but has to be a question over her running??
I have landed on GALA AFFAIR who won 3 straight and was narrowly beaten in her latest when the race was not run to suit. With just 52.5kg she will be particularly hard to stop late in this.
No idea how CRACKEJET will go in the wet but if Dunn runs I would respect.
On Top: 11- GALA AFFAIR
Hardest To Beat: 8- DOUGHTY, 6- BUSHY, 13- CLEAVER
