Doomben on ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Welcome to Brissyraces weekend on ‘The Punt’. Hopefully punters may have followed the quaddie, the best bets or the value last week and paid off some of the lay-bys… And hopefully we can back it up this week to pay the rest off (fingers crossed)

*As usual this is simply my view of the weekend races, feel free to do what you want with the info, there is no cost, no betting strategies so feel free to print off or send to racing friends! Be sure to check in Saturday morning after scratchings for any changes**

*Prices are prices at time of typing*blackbook

Fair to say DOOMBEN is copping a pounding lately! It has held up incredibly well, let’s hope no bias occurs for Saturday.

Race 1:

Gun to my head—– GOLD CAPE but staying away from this. Scrathed now

Race 2:

The top 3 should fight this out. They were all very good against each other last start. If it is wet TOP RADA is again the horse to beat, he is terrific in the going. He does however meet VENTURE ON and FLYING JET 1.5-2kg worse off at the weights.

I’m happy to be in the VENTURE ON ($4) corner. Again gets a lovely gate and should be in front of the main dangers. FLYING JET if she is at her best can run over them, she is not one of my horses though and can be hard to catch. (wins when I’m not on, so should run well!)

On Top:  1- VENTURE ON

Hardest To Beat:  3- FLYING JET,  2- TOP RADA

Race 3:

Obviously the money trail is important here, especially if the Schweida horse is supported.

VIENNA ROYAL knows one speed- Flat Out! And from gate 11 he is gonna go like the clappers. Can they run him down? From first glance, probably not.

I’m not going overboard here and if there is not big money for something else I may play a trifecta with him as a standout.

Outside of that I don’t think it’s a great betting affair.

Race 4:

Now this is some type of race. These fillies are miles better than 90% of the boys race.

ELITIST has a big wrap on her and will improve greatly from her first run.

TOTALLY SURE is also very handy, has had a little freshen and should be pretty close to the mark.

RUBY SOHO seems to keep improving and Thompson takes the ride.

FREEZETHEMILLIONS will be the underrated one here and she is a natural 2 yr old full of speed. Genuine Millions horse but has a task from the bad gate in a big field like this.

OAKLEIGH GIRL was a $400k purchase who went to Melbourne for her debut and won. She looks the real deal and is the one they all have to beat. Gate 3 makes her task even easier.

On Top:  1- OAKLEIGH GIRL (but no value there)

Hardest To Beat:  2,3,6,7,15

Race 5:

I don’t like going away from the obvious and rain is meant to hit Friday so LADY ECHELON will again be the horse to beat. Nat McCall has done a great job and this filly is well above average, goes up in weight which is the query this level.

Munce suits DIVINE CITY and she always runs well at fillies and mares level. Unlucky last start and will go close.

JACQUETTA is in the blackbook and looks in for a great prep. Meets LADY ECHELON 2kg better off and should beat her, however even though she performs on the wet, the drier the track the better in my opinion.

CRADLE ME was far better than it looked on paper in a good race last start, gate 14 no help again though.

ANNA LIZZIE returns and although likely to give them a start she will be hard to hold out late.

I have landed on CASINO CARD. I thought the first up run was very good and looks even better now Love Rocks pulled their pants down again since. Won 2nd up last time and from the good gate can sit where they want.  May be the e/w value here.

ON Top:  10- CASINO CARD  $6

Race 6:

Gee this looks shallow?

ABSOLON, BLACK CASH push forward, is this a chance to ride SOMEDAY closer from gate 2 wet track up to 1600m? I would be, the horse is only going avg so why not try something that may spark some form? I couldn’t come into him on recent form but too scared to say NO in case they ride him that way.

ABSOLON (SCRATCHED)very good on pace and holding them off last time. He meets FILLYDELPHIA 2kg worse off at the weights on this occasion and although I don’t like mares giving weight to the boys I think it is enough to keep me in her corner.

BLACK CASH the other obvious chance, just not sure about his last effort?

Hardest To Beat:  2- SOMEDAY,  4- BLACK CASH

Matt Dunn Racing

Race 7:

Well all I have done is spruik RUDY, we got a collect so why am I going elsewhere? Good point, he is in this up to his ears, no doubt about it, he gets to 1200m which helps and even gets a track with the sting out. I think there is little between him and INTO THE RED ($4) and simply leaning to the latter from the better draw and the fact he should derive more benefit from that outing.

They are my top picks but for those looking wider- WEINHOLT has been racing far better horses than this and I’d expect Moody to have him ready. Gate 15 is the query. OLYMPIC ANTHEM could jump out of the ground this prep, GUNDY SPIRIT was really good last start and TINTO was a lot better than he looked. Any of them would not really surprise.

On Top: 6 – INTO THE RED

Hardest To Beat: 4- RUDY

Race 8:

STRADON has started fav 3 of his last 5 and been beaten each start. He has only won 1 race from his 13 starts but again will push for favouritism. The form looks good through Love Rocks and The White Hope who beat him home last start both smashing fields last week. He is the hardest to beat but I think REGULAR looks one of the best on the program at $4.40 + $1.85.

REGULAR has trialled well, can sit 4th-5th without spending a penny and that actually looks value. If it was to get very wet than obviously STRADON may be favoured with recent racing under his belt.

On Top:  3- REGULAR

Hardest To Beat:  14 – STRADON

Brisbane Race 8 No.3 – REGULAR

**Just want to mention Sydney Race 6 No.7- STRIKE THE STARS – Many may have followed me in last start, that was an incredibly biased track and he was no hope, this looks better and at $8.50 + $2.90 I will be more than forgiving and back him in again.. Yes he is on notice, but as mention write last run off.

BRISBANE Quadrella:
