Doomben Wrap Up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Bit of a wrap up from a really good days racing at Doomben.

I’ll start with the Origin Jockey series, as for the series itself it snuck up without much chat this year and it doesn’t do a lot for me but I’m happy to support it because having that quality of jockey’s here for a couple of race meetings is excellent. Too often we see B.Stewart or someone punch a horse to the lead in Brisbane and everyone looks scared to make a move, this weekend we had a lot of races with higher than expected tempo and nearly every race you were able to make ground from anywhere.

No doubt making ground from anywhere was also due to a bit more juice in the track on an overcast day. I would be very keen to hear what most trainers thoughts are on days like a fortnight ago with high temps and 4 of 5 1200m races are run and won UNDER 1:09:00 which just favors front runners. Surely we could have the track at a Soft 7 range at 7am because even by race 3 you’d nearly be at a Good range anyway? (Especially if we are going to race until 6pm) The track this week was far better.

WIN OF THE DAY: CADOGAN  (Honorable mention AWESOME PLUCK)

Both outstanding efforts. The difference was they went out nearly 7L quicker than the avg BM in AWESOME PLUCK’s race and really set it up for him to rip home over the top as he did. All you can do is win and although he didn’t beat stars he is a work in progress and can improve off this.

CADOGAN’s race only went out 1L quicker than avg BM and he was last. He rounded them up and spat them out, the fact he beat the in form Chapter And Verse by 2.3L was impressive but the fact it was 2.8L back to the third horse in a good quality race makes this clearly the win of the day.

JOCK OF THE DAY: J.Murphy

Two rides, LULU EXPRESS and CADOGAN, both great steers and both winners!

WISH THEY HAD IT OVER AGAIN: J.KAH +M.MURPHY

Absolutely horrible steers on two fav in the feature, should have got speeding tickets and a slap on the knuckles at the very least. If Kah takes a sit of Prioritise I feel Kay Kay Boy would have run 2nd.

BETTER THAN IT LOOKED: AL’S KINGDOM

Led them up at a silly tempo and the effort to land in the money was very, very good.
