Dunaden dominant in Geelong Cup

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We seen an extremely good galloper in Dunaden take out the Geelong Cup in sensational style today. He has now stamped himself as a deserved second favourite in our greatest race. (Hopefully punters may have taken the steer into Dunaden or the trifecta in our Spechenka article as he did look a good thing)

The imported galloper sat back near the tail as he usually does while Tanby was getting the run of the race up front, fourth one off the fence. Bauer was a touch unlucky, and many punters are raving about his run. I agree it was a very good run, but all honours are with the winner. The race was not run hard and he peeled four wide at the 700m and made a long sustained run to win in what I would say is the most impressive Geelong Cup win since Media Puzzle broke the track record.

It is also worth noting that connections feel this win was a ‘bonus’, and that the horse will improve a hell of a lot going into the cup, and he did carry 58kg today.

With Bauer running third I believe he goes around 41st in the order of entry to the cup and is pretty close to getting a start on the first Tuesday in November.
