Eagle Farm 23/3 ‘The Punt’

Really good day of racing.

NOTE- I try to get this preview up as soon as possible but on this new track the fields often have 6-8 emergencies and as you can imagine after scratchings the races can look completely different. Just take that into account when reading this early preview and it will be updated/final Saturday morning after 9am. Cheers.

Race 1:

Another poor 2yr old 1400m race. SIZZLING BABE won the race a fortnight ago when $1.45 out to $2.20, she bolted in. Again the horse to beat but I’d want $3+ to bet.

GIRLS ARE READY is the best performed horse by a long way and raced in the Magic Millions, however they ran on the heavy 10 last week which had to be a gut buster, has to be some query seven days later? Would have slept for two days.

PULL ANCHOR was just a pass mark on debut but out to 1400m on a bigger track and blinkers means she can land in the money here.

On Top: 3-SIZZLING BABE $2.30

Hardest To Beat: 9-PULL ANCHOR $11, 1-GIRLS ARE READY

Race 2:

Another pretty avg race.

Been waiting for MULLAGHMORE to get to 2000m+. Changed stables but gets the right run here and while there are a lot of questions about others running the trip he will relish it and expect him to win. Only real danger for mine might be CHAMPAGNE GARDEN who run well against the older horses over this track/trip last start.

TATCEE can be forgiven last run, horrible tactics. LUCADEAL will eat up the 2200m on the big track, I just can’t clear my head of how slow the horses were he beat last start.

On Top: 2-MULLAGHMORE $3.20

Race 3:

Fan of BELLE ROC but she has to stand up and be counted here. Up in grade but down in weight, out to 1500m and Galloway has to make some use of the gate and land midfield. She has run the fastest L200m in 5 of 6 career runs, this looks suitable and will be strong late again here.

PONYTALES last two have been excellent behind a handy one. She goes up 3kg from the last run but again will get the perfect run in transit and she will be in front at the 150m. She will run well.

SUILVEN probably the best of the on speed runners and looks a big price again if playing early quaddies etc.

*Like BELLE ROC and PONYTALES but at $5 I don’t think that’s a great price in a big field.

On Top: 16-BELLE ROC $5

Hardest To Beat: 6-PONYTALES $6

Race 4:

Not that keen here. Love MACEWEN and even with a fast tempo here he will need a lot of luck from the outside gate.

SPIRITS CHOICE will lead them and lead them for a long way, heart in the mouth stuff the last 100m.

MISHANI HUSTLER beat DEFENCE MISSILE fair and square last start but this sets up different with horses trying to hold him out. Also MH worst run in a long time was his only start this track.

If i had to pick one I’d say DEFENCE MISSILE but won’t be betting myself.

Numbers: 3-12-1-4-10

Race 5:

They went up $17 CALZINI and $26 FRANGIPANI MOON which was overs but soon into $8 and that’s probably short enough to be honest with the awkward gate. They rode him with cover at the end of last prep and he was a different horse. Hot tempo and he will be best late but Cahill might lose sight of the bunny could be the issue.

JAMI LADY is the best horse in the race but there is plenty of speed underneath her and she is short. Class can carry her a long way here.

*Small plays CALZINI and FRANGIPANI MOON anywhere near their opening quotes.

Roughies: 5-CALZINI $11 ++++ 11-FRANGIPANI MOON $18

Next Best: 1-JAMI LADY

Race 6:

All comes down to if they run MR MARBELLOUZ or not? (he’s going to the coast) He’s also nominated for the Goldmarket. He’d look the winner here but not a play for me at odds-on.

If he doesn’t run I could consider a small bet SNITCH if he is around $10 mark. Won five on the trot last prep and a fast run 1000m from a good gate and with the light weight would be suitable.

Thought STRATURBO from a good gate can run better than $23 and the top two are the obvious class runners!

Value: 9-SNITCH $8

Roughie: 4-STRATURBO $23

Class: 1-2

Race 7:

Looks a slow run race and lots of the main hopes will be in the back half of the field.

Advantage KUBIS, GET STUCK IN and SEE THE MASTER who all land in the first five settling.

GET STUCK IN has been good to us and made it three straight last time with his most dominant win. Does jump sharply in weight and this is harder but still has upside.

KUBIS has had the two runs at 2200m and rock hard fit but drops to the 1800m here. Should lead these and they may well wind it up from the 600-700m to make it a bit of a staying test. Gets the claim and reckon $8 is a fair price.

DECONSTRUCTED could be the best of the backmarkers, comes out of a much better race and just needs to stay within striking distance to be the best late.

*Feel they are the three and not much between them.

Numbers: 2-3-1

Race 8:

You don’t see many horses run career bests at starts 36 and 37 but that is what SWORD OF JUSTICE has done, he has improved out of sight. He will lead these and drops from a Listed win to Open company and only goes up 1kg in the weights. He’s the one to beat.

Really like IMPASSE as a horse, very honest and just getting slightly better each run. He has breeding on his side and may still have more to give. He may even be able to cross and sit on the leaders back to get a tow into the race or sit third one off the fence. UPDATE- Scratched, probably runs in a CL6 next week but there is some heat on them now because this was winnable up on speed.

They should be able to dominate up on speed.

ORDER AGAIN is the best horse but he’s always had issues and he’s very hard to trust. His best would win it but we haven’t seen his very best for a while.

*looks SWORD OF JUSTICE and ORDER AGAIN after scratchings but deflated IMPASSE is scratched.

Race 9:

Nearly impossible at this stage, huge race, lots of emergencies and will be easier to work out after we know who is actually lining up.

Good race.

Just betting off the map and although i’m worried about the 59kg, TAWFIQ BOY gets the gun run and every chance. I feel the horse runs best for Lloyd but Cassidy just needs to wait and have last crack at the leaders. $10 seems fair.

LANGHRO has been over racing when pushed out, there is speed here and surely Cahill tries to let one cross and sit on leaders back. If that happens he’ll be hard to catch with the 54kg.

SCALLOPINI and SHOGUN SUN very good horses with bad gates and CURDLED a live chance.

*Small win bets 2-TAWFIQ BOY $10 and 16-LANGHRO $9

Race 2 No.2- MULLAGHMORE (opened $3.80 TAB)

Best Roughie:

Race 5 No.11- FRANGIPANI MOON $18

EARLY QUDDIE: 2,4 —- 6,8,16 —- 1,3,4,10,12 —- 1,5,11,14

QUADDIE: (races6-9) 1,2,4,5,9 — 1,2,3,8,9 — 2,3 — 2,16

Sydney Race 9 No.3- ALL TOO SOON $6.50

**Just a few bets I’ve had at the GC- Not brimming with confidence but should run well.

Race 2 No.9-TAKATSUBO $7 – Leads and hard to catch.

Race 4 No.3-NORTHERN DANCER $3.90. Box seats, gets every chance.

Race 6 No.6-GOLDEN SHEAF $3.70. Gets back but will be strong late.
