Eagle Farm again Sat ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Back to EF again this week. Have to be honest and say I still haven’t worked this track out but with hot weather this week I think it’s fair to say it will be a firm track again. Jocks seemed to go fence, then get off fence then go back to fence last week so I think they might be the same as me and still got no real idea. Let’s see what we come up with.

*Feel this is one of the better meets this track has had, some very even fields and good racing.

*Early preview up for punters but things can change and they will be final at 9am Saturday*

RACE 1: * * *

Not a good race to start.

Can believe I have her on top but MISS SHANTI seems to go around every second week without missing a start. She has been racing ok without winning (over longer trips). She drops sharply in trip but feel the races she has been running in are a better standard than this. Fradd rides and she gets in on the minimum

PICARO looks as though it can be the hardest to beat and respecting the Gollan pair in a race like this.

RACE 2: * * *

Hard to split TREVELYAN and RECKLESS CHOICE, could back one and save the other if prices allow.

TREVELYAN is on the way up, ran very well although well beaten by Looks Like Elvis last start. That horse has since beaten them up again so the form looks strong. One of the best L200m splits of the day last time out and gets a good run midfield to allow Fradd to nurse as long as possible.

RECKLESS CHOICE run in the hot CL6 last week and has run well on 8 and 10 day back ups before. Just run over late last week and ready to show best with the couple of runs back now.

Forgiving SEE THE MASTER, he was too bad to be true last start and will strip fitter for this.

Next Best: 6-SEE THE MASTER $15

RACE 3: * * *

Very even sort of race and not a lot between them.

TYCOON STREET just on top for me and feel back to 1200m on firm ground is what she is after. McGillivray to ride and feel she can stalk the main chances and gets her chance to run over them late.

SMUG SATISFACTION the obvious danger, no luck two back before racing wide throughout in a pretty handy race last start. Finished alongside Veranes who won last week. Ready to show best.

CLOCKWISE has been consistent and gets the box seat.

Hardest To Beat: 10-SMUG SATISFACTION $5

RACE 4: * * *

Everything points to SNOOPY here but sometimes you just trust/rate some horses more and I’m a big fan of SCALLOPINI. SNOOPY has been racing well, leads this for fun at what should be a slow tempo and will be extremely hard to catch on a track he likes.

SCALLOPINI needs to land in the first 4-5 but did find that spot fresh last prep and proved too good. He might have bigger targets later on but this is suitable. He will go on to win better races this prep.

On Top: 3-SCALLOPINI $2.75

Hardest To Beat: 2-SNOOPY $5

RACE 5: *

Not keen to bet but very keen to watch this. The three most exciting youngsters come from the three top stables. BABY BOOMER/Gollan, GRAND ZOU/Edmonds and PROFIT/Andercote.

Not much between them, BABY BOOMER draws well but is 1100-1400m on a big track so assuming they go back and get the horse to relax anyway. Fradd on GRAND ZOU is drawn a few inside of PROFIT, he can try and hold that spot and keep PROFIT wide or he can let PROFIT cross him and then get a free tow into the race on the back of the right horse and wait as long as possible to ask his for the effort.

LADY APPLETON next best for quaddie players.

One of the most interesting races on the day! I’d be surprised if the winner wasn’t in these three but any of these would not surprise. Feel the $8+ about PROFIT might be the value.

RACE 6: * * *

Another interesting race.

SIENNA ROSE got back to last, circled and blew away a decent field on this track last start. No reason she can’t do the same but I just hope she doesn’t yank the horse back from the good gate and ride too ugly. She is airborne and just needs a decent steer.

DREAMTIMER the other main chance. They showed their hand last week and backed it off the map but missed the big collect by running 2nd. The horse is going as well as it can but just needs a good steer from gate 10 by the apprentice. Gets in light after the claim.

On Top: 6-SIENNA ROSE $3

Hardest To Beat: 13-DREAMTIMER,

RACE 7: * *

Bit of a dartboard job this!

CAPITAL CONNECTION (SCRATCHED) is probably the best horse in the race. He went up under the odds from the poor gate last start and drifted in the market as expected. He has drawn poorly again so every chance of being wide or having to work again. I feel this starting point is as dynamite as the 1050-1100 at Doomben and gates are very important.

For that reason COOL SEQUENCE and LIFESAVER can be hard to beat. No matter how hard they go both will land in the first 4-5 on the fence and get soft runs in transit. Not a lot between them and it’s a hard race to be confident in.

On Top: 10-LIFESAVER ew $8.50

Hardest To Beat: 3-COOL SEQUENCE

RACE 8: * *

Another race with a genuine tempo and most should get their chance. NEW TIPPERARY is a Group winner and been racing in much better company but fair to say mixing form and hard to catch these days. Got a long way back last start but liked the way he got through the line late when beaten 3.5L by Wolfe and he ran the 2nd best L400m of that race.

RULING DYNASTY and MORENDI can land in exotics but sure they want 2000m now and probably back up next week.

IMPASSE is wearing thin with me. It’s not like he’s turned it up in his races but he just hasn’t got it done in a while. He might get back and make his run with NT here. To 1600m 2nd up? Can win.

MAGNUFIGHTER is as consistent as they come. Again just finds the best spot and again gets his chance to win. Just bumped into a very handy one last week.

Hardest To beat: 4-MAGNUFIGHTER, 15-IMPASSE

Watch with an eye to next week- RULING DYNASTY and MORENDI

RACE 9: * *

Looks a very good tempo again in this race. Liked the effort of EXDREAM at the midweeks and after a few races up here I feel they have worked him out. 1200m is his pet trip and just get the horse comfortable. He got back to last at Ipswich but should be able to land midfield in this big field and make use of the gate. (5th best L200m of the meeting at Ippy)

Love the booking of Bayliss on CONSTANT FLIGHT and he’s obviously the one they all have to beat. Won or placed in 8 of 10 says it all.

MAIL ESCORT has been very good with little luck his last two. This race sets up ok and a live chance.

PARK CHINOIS the best of the roughies. Consistent, in a good stable and has trialled well.

Value: 17-EXDREAM $6

Roughie: 11-PARK CHINOIS $17
