Eagle Farm on ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We head to Eagle Farm after what was an extremely frustrating day at Toowomba last week. REAL EGO $34 was beaten a half head and could make a case it should have won, GEM DEALER $8 was another that you could make a case for and of course VELADERO did his thing in getting beaten a nose at $9. Could have been an enormous day but instead we just got GEM OF SCOTLAND and THE LORD MAYOR as the winners on the day, so we move on.

Again leading into an EF race day we have nearly perfect weather and another GOOD surface with the RAIL 3m+.

DAY SUMMARY: Looks a very even sort of day with big fields again. I’ve based my day around a few key gear or jockey changes on certain horses. The South African’s can be hit and miss but they are exceptional when on song and feel Fradd in particular has a few good rides throughout the day.

Race 1:

Handy race and there will be good form out of it but not sure I have to be betting here.

The Dunn pair GETYOURGREYON and READY TO HUMBLE will both be good horses and recent trials say they can win without surprising.

WELL PREPARED was very good on debut before jumping in grade and may have just had enough by then, can be on speed and hard to catch.

Respecting CHICO MILAGRO, strikes me as one that will like 1200m+ but this stable will have him ready.

Also a few others with chances that wouldn’t surprise.

*Keen to watch but probably not betting.

Race 2:

EPAUADA is 2/2 and really liked the last start win before a freshen up. She has really good gate speed and although I’d love to see her take a sit one day she probably has to be positive here and she’ll be extremely hard to catch.

LONGBOTTOM and BRAZEN GEM come out of a race at Muswellbrook and both were pretty good but feel WRITTEN WITH EASE seems the one that might be the wrong price at $17 and can be thrown in exotics.

On Top: 1-EPAUMADA $2.50

Race 3:

HIGH OPINION and WU GOK are the two who I am most keen on but have to admit the big weights might be enough to stop me betting.

HIGH OPINION was excellent late in a handy race and after a few runs back is ready to show his best. Can sit midfield or closer here and expecting a good run. WU GOK has been huge his last two and no reason he won’t run well again with Lloyd sticking.

SIR BARNABUS, FIGHTING TEO, ALLCASH, WINNING WAYS all hopes and probably too many chances for me to bet.

On Top: 3-HIGH OPINION $6.50

Race 4:

NEW HORIZONS and MAIL ESCORT were both good last start up on speed in a fast run race, both better for the run and both will again be on speed and run races here.

SPIN, one of the great ‘nonnies’ but gee if he doesn’t win here i’d be surprised if he’s not for sale soon! On weights/ratings etc he has to win, the issue is he might not want to, again he was good through the line last start but had every possible.

Having a bet TOTALLY CHARMED around the $9 mark, think a decent gate and Fradd taking over might be exactly what this horse needs. Decent tempo over 1200m on a big track and Fradd can nurse for as long as he likes and get the last crack at the leaders. He needs things to go right but they do line up here.

STAR BOY had a long break and will be better for the couple of runs back. Lloyd rides and he sits in in the first 2-3 pairs getting a gun run.

Hardest To Beat: 3,4,7,14

Race 5:

Filthy I feel for a ‘nonnie’ in Veladero last week (only beaten a nose but still found a way to lose and that’s what they do). Well here we go again!! RIVER RACER. I can confirm I gave her ‘life’ after the last run but I will be having something on for the last time here. She gets gate 1, winkers go on and most importantly Fradd takes over. She gets a lot of things in her favour and $6 a fair price.

Thought OUR MANTRA was ok last start in a race the on pacers dominated, back to the dry track I think $21 is overs, just a sticky gates the query.

Hard for me to knock a horse like PIZONE when I’m tipping RIVER RACER but just feel PIZONE is better at 1000-1100m and I was very disappointed backing him last prep. Does seem to be racing better this time in though and in the right stable.

MASTERATI can roll forward and sit outside lead, up to 1200m and on dry ground can see him improve sharply.

On Top: 13-RIVER RACER $6

Roughie: 8-OUR MANTRA $21, 3-MASTERATI $16

Race 6:

Good race this and excited to see A MAN TO MATCH return. The issue may be that he is on a Derby path and has a lot of improvement but I’m sure he can sprint well fresh if he’s close enough on the corner. He has any amount of ability and the last comment I wrote in my database was ‘he needs cutting’ and now they have gelded him I feel he could be a serious carnival player.

RACECOURSE ROAD and SAXOGON will be up on the speed and if they happen to get it cheap enough they will be very hard to run down. RACECOURSE ROAD ran good time over the 1200m last start but more importantly still ran the fastest L200m of the race. Lloyd takes over and deserves to be hard in the market. SAXOGON has the Millard Reaction form, enough said.

CRAFTY SPIRIT and STARBUSTER can be value for exotics around $21.

On Top: 3-A MAN TO MATCH $5.50

Race 7:

SEE THE MASTER is not the best horse in this race but he is rock hard fit, can sit on an average tempo for Lloyd and has the light weight, that makes him competitive.

Feel GOLD AMBITION will need the run but his recent trial and first up run were both excellent. Fastest L200-400-600-800 of the race fresh. If they get him close enough he can run over them without surprising.

update: Feel KILMACURRAGH can go forward and expect him and SEE THE MASTER to get it pretty good up on speed. They can give a kick and be hard for these backmarkers to run down.

*Can make a case for a lot of runners but small bets these two for me.

Next Best: 12-KILMACURRAGH $16

Race 8:

Really even sort of race and not that keen. Feel FIERY HEIGHTS and FROM WITHIN can be advantaged on speed and should get it ok and not expecting a hot speed.

That pretty much explains the race and no real need to go into much more detail. Still chance to others with the right ride but this starting point is rubbish and the leaders are the horses to beat.

*FROM WITHIN on top but probably no bet for me.

Race 9:

TONSOR is a ripper, as is SCALLOPINI.

Don’t think TONSOR beat much last start and he got the gun run throughout. In saying that all he can do is win and he did it in style. He again gets the gun run here and deserves to be the short priced fav.

SCALLOPINI is another on the way up and I feel he’s also a horse who can get to Listed sort of level. Out to this trip on the big track from a good gate is also a great scenario for him. He can stretch the fav.

Best away from them might be CANNYESCENT who finally gets to 1400, finally gets a big track and finally gets a drop in weight. He will be one of the strongest late. SHOGUN SUN and SNITCH can land in first 4’s without surprising.

*Might just quinella the favs or play skinny tri’s.

Quinella: 7-11

Trifecta: 7,11– 7,11– 2,10,12

Race 10:

Another race I’m not sure I play into.

CONSTANT FLIGHT is a very consistent type that lacks a real turn of foot but he sits on speed and just keeps coming each run. Didn’t see out the mile last start so just put a line through that. Can box seat in this and expecting him to be the horse they have to run down. You’ll get a sight for you money at $6.

Just too many chances to name but HAPPY HOOVES going as good as ever, just spots a big start. CALZINI has most upside but 1400m a tiny query. MYMMING over the odds at $21 but could get a long way back.

Not keen enough to put any in the ‘great bet’ category.

Had WIN bets.
