EF review

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A big days racing at headquaters. I haven’t hidden the fact I rarely actually bet at EF, it’s just a place I am not confident in and yet again yesterday in stewards reports there were a lot who pulled up sore or short and one even scratched with the track upgrade.

It seemed nearly everyone agreed the track was cutting out and the further out you went the better mid raceday (Which is weird anyway when people are saying it’s extremely hard). However, longshots like LA PULGA went up the fence and ran well. And the quinella in the last ($41 and $21 pops) were the two closest horses to the fence (even though they were off the fence).

*I don’t hide the fact I don’t know the tricks of EF but i’m just as convinced nobody else does as either*

Race 1:

ELIXIR got the perfect run and shot for home at the 250m. Cahill on THY KINGDOM COME had got to a sticky spot but once he got over heels he let down brilliantly and monstered poor little ELIXIR to get the cash.  SAXTON ROCK was very good from the back fresh and PLENTY didn’t have the best of luck.

Race 4:

ONE SHY RUBY has a heap of upside. She went forward again and gave a great sit at only her 3rd career run.  SMART ‘N’ SEXY got a nice run and once she found  the gaps in the straight she let down well to get up on the line. She ticked the 1200m box now and might be able to go on with it. Not sure about the strength of the race with only 1L over the first 7 horses.

Race 6:

M.D.P thought he was on a KTM125 not BOOMTOWN LASS. He spent WAY too many pennies trying to cross and her effort to finish as close as she did was excellent. CHAPTER AND VERSE, BANDIPUR and SCALLOPINI were all good runs. Keen to follow SCALLOPINI if he can draw a gate over 1400m anytime soon. No knock on the $71 winner IN GOOD TIME, simply gave them a beating and won well.

Follow- SCALLOPINI 1400m.

Race 7:

B.Stewart just continues to give these favs in big races super rides. He’s drawn poorly on many occasions lately and has given them 10/10’s. There is none better from a bad gate! VANNA GIRL is an exceptionally good filly with a big future. CELLARMAID made a heap of ground down the outside but she’s just one of those horses with the ordinary get back pattern and that stops her from winning as many races as she should.

Race 9:

Spike Colless, too good.

I liked JEN RULES here and she got the sweetest run you could wish for. When she hit the front at the 200m it looked hers for the keeping but a few launched late and in a good go she has run 4th beaten 0.5L. She is a very consistent mare who just continues to run well. Just lacks that real turn of foot that would make her a genuine group horse.

They all wanted to get off the fence but Colless who was getting busy on the corner thought he’d not ride for luck, he’d just go where the others didn’t want to. He went inside them all and LOVE YOU LUCY got the bob in to win on the line.

**Hopefully the rain can stay away this week and we get a good surface at Doomben (Brisbane’s best punting track).**
