Essington ready for Rocky newmarket

One of our favourite trainers on brissyraces is Darryl Hansen and I received an e-mail on the weekend from a member asking if I could chase up what the latest is with Essington? So I had a chat to Darryl and also asked about a few others of his stable that he has flying at the moment.

The original plan was to target the Glasshouse first up, so I started by asking Darryl if Essington has had a setback or if the plans had changed? “He is off to Rockhampton Newmarket Thursday first up from a spell. I will bring him back home and we will go from there.” Hansen told me.

So he goes to the Newmarket and he has 59kg which is a touch more than Darryl wanted but if he is at his best he will be mighty hard to hold out. Hansen also has Perugin Thought heading north to also run in the Rockhampton Newmarket and he had been given 57kg. There are other runners from the stable there on the day and I would think Hampden has a bit of upside to him but I didn’t ask Darryl about him.

I did mention to Darryl the $130,000 Ramornie as I think with a good gate, the 1200m around Grafton would be right up Essington’s alley. He said it would be a possibility but wouldn’t worry about that until he sees how the horse comes back from his trip north.

Mondean was one of the most impressive winners of the day at Ipswich and the stable are sticking with the plans to take out a couple of the major North Queensland sprint. “He pulled up as good as gold, he’s off to Mackay for the Newmarket and Townsville for the Cleveland Bay.” Hansen informed me.

Darryl is really building a nice team of horses in his stables and is doing a fantastic job with them. He has got a few nice horses from the yearlings sales this year and I believe he may have some shares available in a nice colt by the stallion who just keeps producing winners JET SPUR:

The horses are from this years QTIS 600 sales:

LOT 403  JET SPUR x ROSE OF BRYZANCE – Chestnut colt

and

LOT 178 BRADBURY’S LUCK x GOLD DRIFT – Brown colt. (Gold Drift is a half sister to Montana Flyer)

A couple of nice bred youngsters to have a look into.

He is a good trainer and an even better bloke, so if you are interested in racing this nice type you can contact Darryl
