A bit of success last week with Shamus Award in the interstate look so we might as well look at the Flemington Group 1’s again.

Flemington

The AUSTRALIA CUP:

I don’t like doing it but going for the fav in FIORENTE here. He is a superstar and although I am never keen on horse 2nd up to 2000m it is more of a trend now with these ex- European stayers. His 2nd up record is better than fresh and he is simply a ‘winner’.

I can’t see anything turning the tables on him and the question is the 3 year olds, and are they good enough to beat him? SHAMUS AWARD has proved the Cox Plate was no fluke and looks a real danger. I have a question if he can lead and win over the 2000m at Flemington but on the other hand you would expect a cheap sectional or two here.

Outside of those STAR ROLLING and FORETELLER are the trifecta horses for me. Both are further into their preps than most of these and that fitness can only help.

On Top:  1- FIORENTE

The NEWMARKET:

Just about my favourite race of the year! Quality animals meeting at handicaps, bring it on.

Yes it makes it difficult but there is usually some value around for exotics.

The horses in the best form are the topweights. MOMENTOF CHANGE comes off back-to-back Group 1 wins and back to 1200m down the straight is of no concern. The weight is the question but he can run well.

LANKAN RUPEE is the up and comer we have not got to the bottom of and he also comes off a Group 1 win. He is a different horse since being gelded and been running exceptional times at 1100m. The 1200m no dramas but I’m sure they would love some cover. If that happens he can win.

SHAMEXPRESS is where I have landed and he has been set up beautifully for this. Up in weight from last years win but loves this track/trip and the run in the Lightning was outstanding. He is on top and the only thing is he will need a touch of luck from what may be an awkward gate.

SAMAREADY set up for a great trail from gate 9. Should get covered up and be very hard to beat.

BERNABEU is the light weight that interests me if it is fast and dry.

On Top:  4- SHAMEXPRESS

Hardest To Beat:  3- SAMAREADY,  2- LANKAN RUPEE
