2019 TATTS TIARA

EAGLE FARM – RAIL 4M+

*Very fair starting point with a long run to the first corner. In saying that you’d still rather have a gate in these capacity fields and it’s never ideal having to go all the way back in 18 horse fields at Eagle Farm as you can simply lose sight of the bunny.

*SPEED: Good speed engaged but once they find their spots it will just be an average/even tempo. IRITHEA will try to cross from 17 but expect PROMPT RESPONSE to hold the fence. SAVATIANO from 15 will be positive but let IRITHEA cross, she may land one out and one back. OUTBACK BARBIE, POHUTUKAWA and WINTER BRIDE will all use their gates to hold spots in the first half of the field.

The ’blue army’ have been exceptional over the winter carnival and expecting more of the same here. All three of their horses are in career best form and have a real sense of timing about them. SAVATIANO has found a length or two in QLD and her win in the G3 was even better than it looked. She sat on speed, they went out quicker than the benchmark but she still ran the 2nd fastest L600m and the 3rd fastest L200m of the entire meeting. Her recent trial was as good as you will see and she will look the winner at the 100m. If there is a query it’s just the last 50m, you’d love it to be 1300m for her.

POHUTUKAWA on the other hand would probably prefer this be over the mile. She was a certainty beaten in the Guineas last start when she was severely checked in the straight and lost 2-3L when she needed to be building revs. It was amazing to see how well she picked up and went through the line there. She gets a lovely trip in transit, Shinn stays on and will be keen to make amends for what happened last start. She will be one of the strongest late and all reports are her work has been first class.

The third of the Godolphin chances is MULTAJA and she comes off a career best in the Listed Helen Coughlan. She is a get back horse so will want a battle up front. If Lloyd can find some cover she will savage the line late. She has run the fastest L400m split in six of her last seven starts and her last 600m in the Helen Coughlan was the 3rd best of the meeting (a very strong meeting). IRITHEA did beat her home three back at Hawkesbury but MULTAJA meets her 1.5kg better off here and the speed of the race played into the hands of the leader IRITHEA that day.

Away from the Godolphin team the best of the rest at a price may well be NOIRE $18. Her run two back in Sydney was a pass mark with the big weight against some nice horses on the way up. She stripped fitter from that and there was no doubt she was the best run in the Dane Ripper which is the main lead up race to the Tiara. They went extremely slow there and she ran the best splits from 400-200m and the 200m-home. Waller looks to have timed the preparation perfectly. OUTBACK BARBIE was excellent when knocked down in the G1 10,000 and then was good in the G1 Kingsford Smith where she beat home Man Booker/Victorem and they have won features since. Last start she pulled up with mucus and can’t write her off. SPRIGHT also brings the G1 form and if she reproduces her Stradbroke run she is a live chance. EGG TART comes here fresh off a good trial and has genuine G1 form while ECKSTEIN was well supported and improved last start on this EF track she enjoys. Unfortunately both have drawn poorly and will need a lot of luck early.

*Not a lot between the Godolphin team and wouldn’t surprise to see them quinella the feature. Gone with POHUTUKAWA just on top in a very even race this year.
