Racing Queensland (RQ) in conjunction with Magic Millions (MM) and the Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) has today announced a new $125,000 initiative to boost the sale of Queensland fillies at the March Magic Millions event.
The Queensland Fillies Sales Bonus Incentive is a series of 25 races where the winning owners will receive a $5000 credit bonus to go towards purchasing a filly at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
The initiative will commence next Saturday, December 14 with a $5000 credit presented to the winning owners of the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes, the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes and the Listed Gold Edition Plate.
To be eligible to win a $5000 credit, the winning horse must be QTIS registered and a graduate of Magic Millions Yearling Sale. A maximum of two credits ($10,000) can be used for the purchase of any one yearling.
RQ CEO Darren Condon said the initiative was a great driver of the Queensland racing and breeding product and offered owners a valuable incentive to invest in a Queensland filly come March 2014.
“Queensland fillies are shining at the moment,” Mr Condon said. “You need not look any further than Missy Longstocking or Discreet to demonstrate the value of owning a QTIS registered filly.
“There are 10 races in December and 15 in January where owners can potentially pick up a $5000 credit bonus, and of those 25 races, 19 carry QTIS added stakes so there is plenty of money to be won over the next two months.”
Racing Minister Steve Dickson said he applauded the initiative.
“It’s great to see Queensland racing moving forward and taking the steps to ensure the local industry is a real competitor,” Mr Dickson said.
MM Managing Director Vin Cox said the sales company are delighted to join with RQ and the TBQA to introduce this new initiative.
“Queensland is our home and the efforts of locally bred fillies is phenomenal. This new bonus series adds to the great opportunities for buyers of fillies at the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale,” Mr Cox said.
TBQA President Basil Nolan has also welcomed the introduction of the initiative.
“Our thanks must to go to RQ and MM for the introduction of these incentives and I believe that this will provide a strong boost for the filly market at the March Sale,” Mr Nolan said.
“Fillies at the March sale have been difficult to market and reasonably cheap so the bonuses on offer across the 25 races will encourage buyers to purchase fillies at this sale.”
If the bonus is not won by an eligible horse, the $5000 will be reallocated to a future event.
