We’ve mentioned it here before, but if ever there were a group of owners who have lived the cliche of “good things come to those who wait” then it surely must be the team behind HESEZSO.

Having showed some talent as an early two-year-old, Hesezso was the unfortunate victim of a paddock accident which saw him spend a great deal of his junior season on the sidelines.

Once he did get to the track the results weren’t anything to write home about and suddenly those uncomfortable conversations that every syndicate needs to eventually have were starting to occur.

Fortunately for Hesezso most of his team of owners and trainer Michael Costa had faith in him that he was showing enough on the training track to suggest persistence was better pessimism and the decision was made to keep trying with the three-year-old son of Rothesay.

Hesezso fortunately repaid his believers last Friday at Lismore when he put his competitors in the 1500m Maiden event to the sword. With gun jockey Dan Griffin rating him perfectly out front, Hesezo set the pace early crossing from his wide barrier. Coming around the turn Hesezso expanded his lead down the straight and won by a margin of a widening 3.8 lengths and only .04 seconds outside the track record.

As such it’s fair to say that it looks like the penny may have dropped for Hesezso and hopefully he gets the opportunity to chalk up another victory for his loyal band of owners in his next few starts. Look out for him in a comfortable Class 1 event soon.
