Ippy Cup day on ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly

Ipswich takes centre stage for the weekend and unfortunately there has been rain most of the week.

This will not be a big preview because I think it is one of the hardest days racing/form I have seen. There are capacity fields around a very tight track and it will be rain affected to some degree. I simply don’t want to steer people into too many for the sake of it as it really is a guessing game to some degree with how the track plays.

*It may seem like a ‘lazy’ preview but it is very hard to get up for a meeting with so many questions etc. And scratching’s will play a big part also.

Track- IPSWICH

Rail- TRUE

Surface- I have done this preview on a HEAVY track.

Blackbook runners this Saturday:

Baleen In Me – Belmont R5 No.10 (1000m): Suitable race
Agitate – Ipswich R1 No.1 (1100m):  Hard to beat
Alcancia – Ipswich R3 No.7 (1100m): Short of her best trip but will get through the ground.
Pellegrini – Ipswich R8 No.18 (1350m):
Ava’s Delight – Moonee Valley R5 No.4 (1500m):
Smart Moochi – Rosehill R3 No.4 (1500m):
Miss Ready – Rosehill R4 No.14 (1400m):

Race 1:

Not keen at all.

Race 2:

Not sure if Heathcote runs PELLEGRINI (SCR) here but this scenario looks extremely good for it. 1666m around the tight Ipswich track with it soft underfoot. He can boot on the corner and the last 50m is the only real question.

WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY and SONS OF GOD are the other winning chances in my mind, with SONS OF GOD possibly the pick of them with a slight pull in the weights.. BLOW A KISS and FLYING HOME for trifecta’s etc.

On Top:   2-WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY   +   9- FLYING HOME

Race 3:

Follow any money for CAPE KIDNAPPERS. I think he is the best horse in the race and has won on affected going. How prepared is he 1st up in a very long time on a wet track? The money will tell us that. If he is a drifter ALCANCIA, BYMONASHEE and ROYAL SHOUT can all be testing material with conditions to suit.

STATE OF WEALTH and PURE PURRFECTION (BOTH SCRATCHED NOW) are very consistent but I am leaning to the others this weekend.

On Top:  6- CAPE KIDNAPPERS (if there is money around)  7- ALCANCIA

Race 4:

Simply a race I am going  wide and looking for value. Most of these take it in turns and many look under their real quote.

Without investing much I may look at win bets MAJESTIC SOUND and WITHOUT REPROACH. Yes they are hard to catch but so is every other horse in the race. I just think they get decent runs on pace in a very ordinary event!

MARKOUT and NOBLE JESTER the best of the fav’s.

Small on- 7- MAJESTIC SOUND  + 10- WITHOUT REPROACH

Race 5:

MISHANI WARRIOR gets the bad gate, but does get the 2kg claim and is coming off a decent win.

QUARTERLY is a horse I have had time for but just not sure how he is going. He gets a few things in his favour with the gate and weight here.

DIET is 4 from 4 at Ipswich and has to be respected at odds. MISS BRADBURY has won better races than this is spot on 4th up here.

On Top Numbers:   15- QUARTERLY — 8- MISS BRADBURY – 2- MISHANI WARRIORMatt Dunn Racing

Race 6:  The start of what should be a MASSIVE Quadrella.

Many will simply think the up and comer PERON wins here but gee it is easy to make a case for a handful of runners.

PERON should probably be unbeaten in her career and Cahill gets a gun run from gate 6. This is the hardest race she has contested but she is more than up to it.

CLASSICS and SHARNEE ROSE both ran very well in the Bright Shadow which is the best lead up race to this. They both handle the ground and both are in form. CLASSICS draws gate 1 while SHARNEE ROSE with blinkers first time has gate 17 to make the task harder.

LOVE FOR RANSOM seems value at $10 on her older form. She had luck first up and if she can slot in midfield she is more than capable of swooping late.

AMETSIS $10, SKATING ON ICE $17 and ZAMBONI $51 can all be given thought if looking wide in trifecta’s.

Really not sure what to make of BOUND TO BLUSH at 1350m on a wet track but she has a class edge on most so scared to say ‘no’.

On Top:  16- LOVE FOR RANSOM

Hardest To Beat:  3- CLASSICS, 11-PERON, 5- SKATING ON ICE

Race 7:

VOILA ICI, TOPPING and ZA MAGIC are the leaders and all can run well. I do feel this is a great race for VOILA ICI and the form is really franked with Moriarty winning the Brisbane Cup last week after finishing behind VOILA ICI the week before. He can roll along, kick on the corner and he will be the one they have to run down.

TOPPING does have a 6kg pull in the weights and I think can be the main danger.

HIGH KIN the kiwi handles conditions and is versatile so the gate may not be a big concern.topline

PLANETARIUM and particularly RIALYA $21 also have claims if it turns into a slog and the pressure goes on a long way out.

On Top:  1-VOILA ICI

Hardest To Best:  7- HIGH KIN,  5- TOPPING

Roughie-  4- RIALYA

Race 8:

Dart board?

Fair dinkum, how do you work this out?

CONSERVATORIUM is in form, races on pace and Ipswich should suit, but he does have the leveller of 59kg to cope with. He will get the gun run in transit and look the winner at the 100m for sure.

GUNDY SON (SCR)always a chance in these races and just needs luck from the draw.

I think MORNING CAPTAIN is going better than any off these and is another who just needs luck in running to run over them late.

3 year olds are having an incredible year and DANCES ON STARS form around Academus, Sizzling and co. looks great for a race like the Eye Liner. On the minimum for Avdulla he will sit midfield and if he gets the breaks he is more than capable. Believe it or not gate 1 can be very tricky for a horse like him who will be midfield.

Can’t put PHELAN READY but if he can find the back of the right horse at the 600m he can

On Top:  1- CONSERVATORIUM

Hardest To Beat:  5- MORNING CAPTAIN,  15- DANCES ON STARS,  2- PHELAN READY

Race 9:

CALIENTE (SCR) $8 is a bomb fresh and comes off a couple of trials. She is above average and probably just wants the ground to dry out a bit, that is my only question with her.

CASINO CARD $13 won well last start beating Mr Testa who has since won midweek. He is an improving type and I feel he is up to this.

STAR SAMMY was good and solid late last start behind Mishani Warrior. He goes down 2.5kg and gets a beautiful run from gate 7. The $7.50 on offer looks around the right price.

LOCK’S LEGEND (SCR) far from the worst and worth some thought, as is GENERAL GROOVE. HOLD ME TIGHT can run well here at nice odds and LUKES LUCK did improve last run.

On Top:  13- STAR SAMMY

Hardest To Beat: 8- CASINO CARD

$50
