JET’S GOLD RUSH!

Queensland’s reigning 2YO Champion Sire JET SPUR took all before him at the Gold Coast on Saturday – where he had runners in just the 4 races but won an incredible 3 of those and finished 2nd in the other.

With a pair of juvenile events programmed for the Gold Coast card, Jet Spur claimed the first of these with the Liam Birchley trained filly Shamrock Slipper, whilst also providing the 3rd placegetter with the debutant gelding Strutter.

Shamrock Slipper was having her first run back from a spell, after showing very good early season form against the likes of Doubtfilly and co, and the result never looked in question. Jumping well from the barriers the chestnut filly took up a position just outside the leader and was then held together in the run to the line to register a promising victory.

The following race saw the next batch of 2YO’s line up and again Jet Spur provided both the 1st and 3rd placegetters.

This time it was popular trainer Matt Dunn unleashing a debutant colt who looks to have an enormous future. Qfighter had come in for strong betting support before the gates flew and, despite racing wide throughout he simply “second-rated” his opposition by putting a big gap on them in the straight and winning by almost 4 lengths untouched. There is no question it was the most eye catching victory of the day at the Gold Coast and it will not be long before we see him lining up in much stronger company.

Then, it was only a few races later before Jet Spur struck again – this time with the 4YO gelding Aessex over the middle distance of 1800m. Spotting the leaders a big start as they entered the straight, Aessex made his challenge right down the centre of the track to finish too strongly for his opponents and claim a strong victory. A step up to more ground should not be beyond him and he is a gelding who has raced consistently right throughout his career.

Jet Spur’s rush of winners on Saturday follows hot on the heels of a number of other really impressive victories over the last few days, including his two 3YO fillies Castle Hill at Toowoomba and the Mark Kavanagh trained Any Destination in South Australia.
