Jewel day at the GCTC

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Big day at the Gold Coast and big fields all day long.

Weather is the question, rain predicted so just watch the sky because if it gets wet they will get off the fence and come down the middle of the track.

*THIS IS JUST THE VERY EARLY LOOK FOR PEOPLE TO USE HOW THEY LIKE. Will be updated Saturday morning* They are now saying up to an inch of rain which is not ideal.

Race 1:

SEE THE MASTER is the horse that maps the best here, Fradd gets a soft run in behind the leaders as he did last start and the form from that race has been good, Takarraka has won since and third horse ran well last Sat.

Been waiting for SIR BARNBUS but from the gate he’s gonna spot them a big start. He is fitter for the two runs back and 1800m is ideal. He will be one of the strongest late but will rely on tempo. Same story for DRUMADOIR, she’s in great form but gets back and a tiny query at the 1800m until I see her do it.

PICKLEHAUBE the other leader who gets it to suit. Feel it is really in the race now the rain has arrived. Backing him and SEE THE MASTER.

On Top: 4-SEE THE MASTER $3.60  ++ 8-PICKLEHAUBE $6.50

Next Best: 6-SIR BARNABUS $9

Race 2:

Happy enough to back FOLLOW SUIT here, he was a good winner two runs back with a great ride by Lloyd. Last start Lloyd showed no interest and he was either fairy tapping the horse or pretending to hit it but he was a lot softer than the run before? Can watch them below.

Anyway, he gets a swing in his favour at the weights against VAUCLUSE BAY, he looks the biggest danger to be so at $6 I’ll be having a small play FOLLOW SUIT.

*Very even away from him.

On Top: 3-FOLLOW SUIT $6

Race 3:

They bring DOMINANT CROWN back and go with another apprentice, not sure they’ll ever learn their lesson but Bayliss going ok and just needs to keep this horse out of trouble to be somewhere in the finish. Opened $17 but closer to the right price now. Can make a case for a heap but luck will play a big part so just a very small play at double figures this horse for me.

WHYCATCHIM (gate the only issue), AWAHNEECHEE and BONSHO all hopes and next best.

Roughie: 9-DOMINANT CROWN $12

Race 4:

MASTERATI has been kept to the 1000m lately but imo he’s a better horse over the 1200m. Du Plessis goes back on and the wide gate isn’t a big concern as he will push forward. Has to lump the big weight but he is a horse who can keep on off a decent tempo and will lead these for a long way.C

Well with MATERATI scratched this race is wide open. Feel CABERIAN back to 1200m on his home track will suit and he can be the best of the leaders.

FABULONH has been frustrating but not placed that well. Reckon the 1200m on a wet track is suitable and if he can find something like his best this is a weak race and he can be strong late.

On Top: 9-FABULONH $10

Race 5:

Another really even race. I’ve never liked ALL PLUCK but Gollan has the horse going as well as he’s ever gone. First two runs this prep were full of merit and last start was just stuck behind a wall of horses. Anything double figures is worth a small wager.

WINTER PASSAGE is the consistent three year old taking on the older horses and has to carry 57kg which isn’t ideal, however she does get a good gate and a nice spot in transit.

BOLD WARRIOR and CHAR CHAR next best while MONACO PLAYBOY is a chance if it gets really wet.

On Top: 1-ALL PLUCK $10

Race 6:

Good race this.

Just feel if Cassidy is a bit aggressive early XEBEC can find a spot in the first 2-3 and give himself every chance. He was outpaced early over the mile but over the 1800m in a race without great tempo he should cash in on the gate and find a spot. Rain would only help.

JAMINZAH has only been on the back up twice and won them both! Out to 1800m ideal and has a sense of timing about him.

MISHANI VAIDRA jumps a lot in grade but her win had to be seen to be believed fresh. If she can repeat that she’s in this.

LOOKS LIKE ELVIS has had a big prep including a lot of travel, he will start fav and the stable are going well, If i have a concern its just he looked a bit dour on the corner last start and he drops back in trip.

*Not a lot between them all, slight lean to XEBEC as he should find the right spot.

On Top: 6-XEBEC $6

Race 7:

It’s the feature of the day but don’t think i’ll bet.

THE ODESSEY got everything his own way last start but he did blow them away. This will be run different but at the set weights he is still the horse they all have to beat. READY TO ROAM and XANTHUS were behind him last time. XANTHUS was three wide the trip, from a gate he could improve sharply here without surprising.

Money early was for SUGAR BOOM but can’t help feeling PERUDO is the best of Gollans here. Might need a bit of luck from the gate but is a ready made two year old and sure to be strong through the line.

*Watching on.

Race 8:

MISHANI HUSTLER went at a fast tempo last start but when DEFENCE MISSILE loomed he went through a brick wall and found another length on that horse. He will try to cross again here but expecting SPIRIT’S CHOICE to lead at a fast tempo. That horse has been going well for Phillips and McGillivray jumps on as which is a positive. She was the first horse backed.

DEFENCE MISSILE can sit off that speed and get last shot at them if they are tiring late. Lloyd sticks and at $5 I might have a small play there.

Love MACEWEN and may have backed him from a gate but he is going to need a lot go right from the outside gate.

Race 9:

We will find out how good MR MARBELLOUZ is here, up in grade and he won’t be able to lead but his last start was exceptional. He ran good time and he will run well again but a horse like CANNYESCENT does get a 6.5kg turnaround at the weights.

FROM WITHIN will lead them up and probably at a decent clip, she is above avg but i’d rather it be 1100m for her.

Happy to have a small bet e/w TYZONE at the $6. He went through the summer series against better horses without a lot of luck. They dropped back in grade to finish the prep off and he blew them away. Off a good tempo here he just needs a bit of luck slotting in and he can be the strongest late.

*Could have win bets TYZONE and MR MARBELLOUZ.

On Top: 1-TYZONE $6 (not as confident on a heavy)

Race 10:

Too many questions here. Massive field, want to see how many scratch, you’d love to know how wet it is as TAWFIQ BOY and BRAINS are the main two hopes, they are the class runners but if the inside is wet and they are coming down the outside they are disadvantaged.

RIVER RACER doesn’t mind the wet track and should be midfield with cover here.

*Update – Still a big field and reckon it will be messy and plenty of hard luck stories…. Not that keen to play in it at the current prices.

Brisbane Race 1 No.4- SEE THE MASTER $3.60
