A fresh new face entered QLD racing last Saturday with Caitlin Lavin training her first metropolitan winner in her very short career when Show A Noee saluted at Eagle Farm.
Caitlin is a lovely young lady with a very bright future. She is based at the Sunshine Coast and has a small team of five at the moment.
Show A Noee has improved sharply his last couple of runs and his win was one of a really nice horse. Lavin explained there have been a few reasons why the horse has continued to improve and she was over the moon with the win. “I had no expectations leading in and I didn’t want to over analyse the race. I pretty much put my faith in Browney, he had ridden him before and removing the blinkers and going to winkers helped because Browney said last start each time a horse would get up to him he would hold back and want to stay with them as he could hear them but not see them. I also think the distance favoured my horse as I’d been putting him in class 1 races over 1400m as there were no two year old races over that trip for horses that weren’t maidens. There were not a lot of others that had a 1400m run under their belt.” Lavin said.
The next race for the son of Show A Heart will be a three year old race over a mile in a fortnights time. Caitlin mentioned that she thought he may have been feeling a bit tired leading into the run, but his performance showed he is at the top of his game. Form wise I think the race will hold up well as Discreet is a very clever filly and has been racing well. Show A Noee was dominant the last 100m and a step to 1600m only looks as though it will help and not hinder the promising chestnut.
Caitlin is a pleasure to catch up with and I’m sure there will be big things in store as her career continues and she picks up a few more nice horses. She has proved very early that she can do the job if she has the right horse which is a great help.
We will definitely be catching up with Caitlin more often to see how things are going and I am hoping to have a ‘One On One’ at some stage over the coming month. Until then let’s hope Show A Noee can make it two in a row in a fortnight’s time.
