Lucky Dubai returns chasing black type

One of the South East Queensland trainers that bats well above her average is Kim Craft. She has a small stable, usually of three or four but can always have one running well in town.

Kim has recently took a new stable acquisition Shezahotshot to a midweek and a Saturday race in Brisbane and again was highly competitive.

The stable star is Lucky Dubai and the consistent mare is due back this Saturday at Doomben in a 1200m fillies and mares quality. She has a great record first up and had had a trial leading into her first up assignment. “She does go well fresh but Doomben could be a concern. She trialled down there the other week and ran fifth which was ok for her first trial. The outside gate doesn’t worry me as it will suit her and she will go back.” Craft said.

Last preparation just didn’t work out and Kim said that it should be forgiven as nothing went right. She also feels that the mare has come back a lot stronger horse this time and is looking forward to this preparation. As most trainers do with their mares Craft plans to try and find some ‘black type’ for Lucky Dubai this time in work. The plans at this stage are to run in a 1350m race at Doomben in two weeks time and then head to the horses’ favourite track across the road- Eagle Farm.

Shezahotshot has had a very good start to her new life with Craft and it is a credit to Kim how well she has the daughter of Intergaze going. Second up she contested a strong midweek race where she settled at the back in a very slow run race, but sprinted extremely well. On that occasion she was asked to take off at the 600m and she just ran out of condition to finish third. Last week she ran at the Saturday meeting and again got back in a race not run to suit. She was set an impossible task and again was sent forward way too early, but showed the sprint of a good horse and fought well to run fourth. On those runs a win has to be right around the corner and I asked Kim what the plans are now with Shazahotshot. “ She will go to the Lismore Cup 2100m. She is a nice horse and I have worked her out now.” Craft informed me.

I think we can follow both horses over the next month or so as I expect them to be competitive in anything that they contest, and with the Craft polish on them they could even string a few wins together!
