Devil Heart – Doomben R6 No.8 (1110m): Good horse!

Stargrill Boy – Doomben R8 No.14 (1350m): Worth a wager.

Hi Son – Gold Coast R2 No.10 (1800m): Well suited

Trakstar – Gold Coast R2 No.15 (1800m): Same as above.

Divine City – Gold Coast R3 No.2 (1300m): Nice mare in good form.

Splendora – Gold Coast R5 No.15 (1400m): Bad gate but nice odds.

Shiraz Attack – Gold Coast R5 No.18 (1400m):

Race 1:

Do we really want to fall into a race like this??

Couple I would have considered from good gates would have been SCRAT and SNIPPETS LAND but from the gates I am really not sure if I want to get involved in capacity field maidens.

Race 2:

A decent edition of the ‘stayers race’ (1800m not exactly a massive stamina test). I expect the locals to dominate here. Pace should be true as it will be in most of the races today.

Big fan of Ryan Wiggins and if he can get to one off the fence and just be a little more patient on TRAKSTAR (1st emergency) this time out it looks a good race for the Gollan trained runner. He meets HI SON better at the weights and gets a better gate so have to lean his way.

HI SON went around last week and was no chance the way it was ridden. I would be forgiving and look for him late.

The in-form Colless rides BLACK JET and the horse has been timed perfectly for this assignment. He will again sit back off the good tempo and will make his run with TRAKSTAR. (Probably hoping to grab his back and get a track into it)

KAYPERS the best of the visitors and have to respect BOREHOLE and SCORPIO QUEEN but leaning to others with the pull in the weights.

On Top:  8- BLACK JET

Next Best:    10- HI SON,  4- KAYPERS

Race 3:

I have DRIEFONTEIN and SEPT DE COUERS pushing hard early but getting easy enough leads. I think the initial tempo spreads the field enough for Munce to be positive and it should be possible to end up 4th one off the fence. That is the way I map the race anyway. If I am right the only horse I can back is DIVINE CITY. She was dominant last start and can prove too good again.

Although the pace may not be over the top, ANNA LIZZIE still has a great finish and is up to a race like this. DRIEFONTEIN even with 61kg must be respected and I reckon the race just about finishes there unless SEPT DE COUERS can take the step and run a race on pace.

Race 4:

Don’t like the race and don’t want to get into it.

HIDDEN WARRIOR is better than these hence the weight and that is the big query.

We know what most of these are capable of but WHITTINGTON may well prove to be very good. He gets the good gate and I’d expect Waterhouse to have him wound up for this. He is on top in not a great race.

*A blowout wouldn’t surprise.

Race 5          The Guineas:

Well this is near impossible. Put up $1,000,000 and race 16 horses around one of Australia’s tightest tracks and what do people do… Make silly decisions. There are horses that will get caught 4 wide the entire here. Connections who draw wide will get the ‘million dollar’ fever and when deciding how to ride form the awkward gate you can bet 90% say push forward. That will add a stack of speed and I think a few good horses with ‘horror’ gates will actually get ok runs 3 wide with cover, but they will still need luck on the corner so they are not on the outside fence.

SWEET IDEA, GRACIOUS PROSPECT, ENQUARE are guaranteed to push forward somewhere. MISSY LONGSTOCKING will join them but I reckon they are mad. She was ridden cold once, when wide over the Melbourne carnival and she smashed them. She can run well on pace but I think her winning chance is to go back and hope for cover and luck.

SWEET IDEA is a bulldog and yet to see if 1400m is ideal but she will fight for sure.

ENQUARE has been extremely underrated and gets the run of the race here 3rd-4th and Byrne will give her every chance. Very little between her and SPLENDORA. Yes ENQUARE gets the better gate, but with a decent speed SPLENDORA will rocket late. She does look over the odds and has to go in quaddies.

NORTHERN GLORY is 2nd up and gets a great run for Waterhouse.

TINTO will start massive odds and is far from the worst, 1400m is exactly what she is chasing and doesn’t have to get back to last over this trip..Matt Dunn Racing

Class runner is the G2 winning CHARLIE BOY. Superb 1st up beating Éclair Big Bang etc in Melb last prep and just needs a pinch of luck to run over them late. I am concerned a little by the gate and a horse like SPLENDORA may be able to get onto his back but I think he gets in really well here and happy to have something on him at near double figures.

On Top:    10– SWEET IDEA,  15– SPLENDORA, 12– ENQUARE,

Race 6              The 2yr old Classic:

Speed on speed here and I am simply looking for value as I don’t think there is a superstar 2yr old engaged.

Surely Newitt will know what he did last time is simply not the go and will be happy to settle 5th-6th from the perfect gate and give OAKLEIGH GIRL every chance. I have not been on the bandwagon but this is set up beautifully and I believe in her trainer. $7.50 looks a decent price. Those worried about the last run- don’t, she was used up on a track where leaders folded all day. To only be beaten 2L was terrific.

Happy to lean GEROMAYO $13 over UNEMCUMBERED on their last matchup but concede the fav does look fool proof. Both horses will be extremely strong late.

CYCLONE should have won last start, gets a lovely run here and 3rd up on the improve. Rates highly.

A couple of Qlder’s with good hopes at big odds. STROAK will love the hot pace and will fly late. Same goes for TOTALLY SURE who is a silly $51. She is not far off STROAK and I really believe she just needs a bit of luck and to get on the back of the right horse to be in the finish. She loomed on the worst part of the track last start and should have finished closer.

Can’t knock INVISABLE for a stable that is flying, good gate and must respect.

I was interested to hear SHEER STYLE should go back which is a good option but like most from the outside draw will need a stack of luck.

*Could make a case for them all but happy to back OAKLEIGH GIRL and something on TOTALLY SURE at $51.

On Top:  12- OAKLEIGH GIRL  $7.50

Race 7:

Well the quaddie doesn’t get any easier here! Was keen to forgive THE WHITE HOPE as everybody wanted to say he was no good off a couple of runs. One of those runs was behind Love Rocks, hows that stack up? Last start he was on a track nearly every leader folded late on. He can run well here but the issue may be CLUB COMMAND who will also look to lead, or put pressure on outside.

GENERAL EXHIBIT is flying and the only real question is how strong over a fast run 1400m? I think he will measure up.

VELROSSO looks set up for this by Waller. A real sense of timing to his preparation and even though the 1400m is a question I reckon he may just explode late.

GUNDY SON back to best last start? Maybe but not sure on that form, but he has been set for this.

LUCKY HUSSLER should be forgiven last run, gets blinkers back on and look for sharp improvement. STARTSMEUP has been good back to QLD racing and was again solid last run, even with the topweight he is a chance.

DOUBTFILLY flying this time in work and was great behind Love Rocks.

**Very tough **

Race 8:

I may well be off the mark but GUNDY SPIRIT should be too good for these. I will admit I am usually against horses dropping back in trip and he was set for the 1400m three year old race but his quality with 53.5kg against the older horses should not be a concern. I think he will sit closer from the good gate and look for him to let down hard at the 300m!

COMMANDARE, TARGET IN SIGHT, LOPETS, and even NOOGOORA BURR (who is impossible to catch) can have cases made but biting the bullet late and sticking with the local from the Gollan yard!
