It was a great day at the races on Saturday and I got to catch up with a few of the trainers we like to interview out at Eagle Farm. Nat McCall was one of those trainers and after doing a replay of the run of RIVER LAD I thought it was a must to ask where that horse will be heading.
“It was a super run wasn’t it. I was wrapped with him. We are not 100% sure at the moment, the race at the Gold Coast in 3 weeks is on the agenda, I’m just not sure how he will handle the tighter track. If not he may be raced sparingly and go to a race like the Bribie at the end of March.” Nat told me.
It was good to hear that the horse has pulled up very well after the run and going on that performance I’m sure Nat and the connections are going to have a lot more fun with him. A race I think suits him is the Ramornie and he did run well in that race last year. Depending on how things go there is a chance that he may contest it again this year.
McCall also had KELBENJAR in the stable and I’m sure he has caused the Sunny Coast trainer a few headaches. He has had a few barrier issues over time but when he puts it together he is well and truly city grade. He is likely to have another provincial run and then may pop back into the city.
It’s always great catching up with Nat who is so down to earth and very easy to chat to about racing. Good luck to her and the team with their stable in the coming months!!
