Murwillumbah twilight preview

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

**UPDATED as of 9:05am QLD time**

As much as I wanted to squeeze in an article I thought it best if we run through the TRJC twilight meeting and give some thoughts on a DEAD 4 Surface.

Race 1:

Looks a two horse event. LASSILA has big doubts over a strong mile, the good news is this is 1530m around Mur’bah and this is an easier assignment than her whole prep has been. She will roll to the front and look the winner at the 100m.

The danger should be MR SLICK who was always above avg but like us all, age is catching up. He is 10yr old and is a credit to David Scanes who has him going well. He will be strong late and can run over them.

On Top:  2-LASSILA

Hardest To Beat:  1- MR SLICK

Race 2:

A few unknowns here with the unraced brigade. Happy to go away from them unless there is support on track.

Over this trip they will go like cut cats and I expect WALTER to hold the fence with RICKSHAWTORAFFLES SCRATCHED) sitting outside and putting pressure on. ROMP IT IN gets the nice trail behind the speed and gets the last crack.

WALTER wasn’t far off Drum Line last start  who I think would smack these so have to have him on top. ROMP IT IN and RICKSHAWTORAFFLES are the next best.

Those looking for trifecta value can head to WHIPPLE and ILLUSIONS…

On Top:  4 – WALTER

Next Best – 3 – ROMP IT IN,

Race 3:

Can’t believe I am saying this in a Murwillumbah maiden, but starting to get keen here. LISBOA EAGLE shouldn’t be a maiden and is better than this level. No luck last time, found one better the start before and again no luck when nearly put through the fence 3 runs back. Extremely happy to see Brad Stewart on top and it will do me!

Race 4:

Don’t like the race and is a potential blowout….

I will say DANEARES has Whiteley on board, gate 1 and finished 2nd to a very handy horse in Snapcrackle last run. That horse has since ran very well in a 3 yr old Saturday race! That makes this look a great target. How wet is too wet if the rain comes?

BALTORO, LADY JEZADANE, CHEEKYBOI, HARLEM SHAKE and COMMAND A HEART best of the rest for those going wide.

On Top:  9- DANEARES

Others for exotics:  5,6,11

Race 5:

Seriously, if you are reading this on track turn around and have a look at the  bookies- That says it all, let me guess- smiling like Cheshire cats!

In all seriousness you can’t make a case for any. Guessing TRICK TONIC may open up silly odds from SOUND WORLD… Yes they may have best credentials (if that’s possible) so should be thereabouts. I want to find odds in a race like this because I don’t want to bet big. HENDY (SCRATCHED) may be the value? See what he opens up but I’d be wanting double figures and only betting for the sake of winning beer money!

On Top:  5,9

Race 6:

Arrrhh Do I have to??

TAAJIR has less convictions than most of these, steps up in trip for the first time and Jason Taylor on. For the sake of it, TAAJIR goes on top.

On Top:  5 – TAAJIR

Race 7:

Gee the top two have panels on these. Both good quality horse.

On a dry track and good gate I believe it would have been MASTERFUL PLAY and the only question would be by how far? Still may be the case, really liked the trial behind Regular who is Listed quality and Believe’n’receive who ran well Wednesday in town.

FREEROCKER has been screaming to win one in Brissy, ducks down here for a ‘kill’ and probably didn’t expect to pop into another smart one. He will be strong late.

Dan Bougoure seemed to get the best out of NEPTUNE PALACE last prep. Not overly keen first up on what should be a wet track but trainer in form and the horse did beat Lascar who is very good.

Hardest To Beat:  2- FREEROCKER

Race 8:

Well I have friends racing TRILLIUM here and myself and mates with CALDETES. Our bloke is very talented but just needs things to go his way in the run. He gets a good trip from gate 2, gets every chance and should be there about. Probably a better horse fresh but It does look a very suitable race.

NATURAL DANCER doesn’t want an inch over the 1000m but has plenty of toe.

TIGER STRIPE, even from the wide gate and big weight only has to run up to Melbourne form to beat these. Good form around better horses than these.

ARONSON comes off a good Ipswich win and looks to push forward again here from an awkward gate. That is the query with pace expected to be hot.

Not sure NATURAL DANCER can even hold GREEDY off early, he has got speed to burn and is the horse on the way up. Many of these have found their mark so he is the unknown!

TRILLIUM has found his niche’ down south and worth thought in tri’s.

On Top:  7 – GREEDY (dead track or better)

Race 9:

Really wanted to put VADER on top who has been running ok and dropped 2.5kg on last good effort, but I can’t put one on top that has won 2 of 45….. MAGINNIS MAGEE is a wet tracker if the rain has really hit but you can count me out!!

Now the rain stayed away pretty sure BIG KEN THE CELT can be more than competitive.

Verdict:  Buy a beer or shout the kids some chips- You will be better off!!

1,5,10 — 1,2 —- 2,6,7 —– 5,7,9

**Also be sure to check back in Friday after 10am as scratchings and weather may play a part and changes will be made

Good Luck!
