Nat McCall heads to coast with her Mr Reliable- RIVER LAD

One of my favourite QLD trainers is Nat McCall and she has her team flying at present!

Nat heads to the Gold Coast on Saturday with a couple of handy horses and a heap of confidence after having 20 of her last 35 runners either win or land in the money. That is a great effort for a smaller trainer and I thought we should catch up to see how the horses are leading into Saturday.River Lad..

The stable star and Mr Reliable is RIVER LAD. Nat has managed a few little issues with him and he is in career best form. “He has taken a bit of time, he is 5 and he can do stupid things. He has had a few back problems but we have managed that and he has been on the water walker and this time in (touch wood) we haven’t had a problem at all whereas other preps we have always had something to patch him up between runs to get him right again. He is happy and he is not hurting so he is racing better.” McCall said.

The plans are open after this start but a race like the Stradbroke is always an option and the BTC cup and Glasshouse would also be very suitable as they are on big open tracks which he seems to enjoy.

KELBENJAR is the other horse heading to the coast and although he has shown a lot of potential he is extremely hard to get confident with as he really mixes his form.  “I was really disappointed with him when he went to town a few starts ago. His last couple he has tried hard and have been very good so hopefully he has taken some confidence out of those.”

It is worth noting Nat said they would be really looking for a good gate and he has drawn 12 so there has to be a question as to whether they will run or wait for another day.

The way the stable is going you would have to think RIVER LAD will be more than competitive in the Prime Ministers cup from barrier 9 and I would love to see Nat continue the run and win another big race!
