Bring on the summer series!

One of the shining lights in a bit of a shit fight which is QLD racing is the Summer Series, it is getting better all the time and this year shapes as a cracking carnival. People want to get out and about and a good race program can swing a lot of people with a passing interest to decide the track is the best place to go on a summers day for a few cold ales.

Desleigh Forster has a major hand in the carnival with TOO GOOD TO REFUSE in scintillating form and CYLINDER BEACH returning like a potential star on the weekend, that was a pretty handy field and it’s not easy to win at EF fresh. Both of those horses have feature wins in them and both will be extremely competitive wherever they head.

Add to that the two top trainers Gollan and Heathcote with a heap of firepower and trainers like Dunn, Edmonds and Anderson knocking out winners they hope will get some black type wins for their respective stables as well it shapes as a great summer of racing.

**EAGLE FARM raced surprising well on the weekend, far better than I expected after the last five months. I am hoping we can see a lot more improvement over the coming weeks with more meetings to be run. One of the best signs was how little kickback there was which is a sign the grass now has decent roots and binding well.

Punting wise I still am treading very wearily as you still don’t know what the little blokes on top are thinking and that is the difference between winning and losing (which way they steer), do they stick to fence? Do they get off at all cost? It’s hard taking a price about a horse when you can’t really map the race as they all have mixed thoughts on the track?

There is no doubt it’s a beautiful new track and as an owner it is awesome to have a big track and smaller track to share Saturday racing on. As a punter give me Doomben any day of the week, far easier to map and a hell of a lot less guessing.

**Still many opportunities missed by clubs and operations throughout QLD to help promote their products etc.

There are websites and similar set ups to Brissyraces around the state, some probably bigger while a few might struggle to get off the ground but I’m sure many are like myself, they love QLD RACING and want the best for all involved. Over the years I tried to do some type of deal (Clubs and business’ would have got the better deal than myself) but unfortunately nobody seems to want to know you until others are talking about you. UBET (Tatts at the time) were about the only QLD organisation who talked to me and that is greatly appreciated, others were almost rude in responses.

The problem is when they eventually give people a chance or want to link up with people (cant think of many if any off the top of my head) the shoe is on the other foot and most of them don’t need or want to help as they have been brushed when they most needed it. I think it can all be fixed by the right people taking each approach on its own merits as there are some great people (far better than myself) who could help if they were just given some time and respect.

Unfortunately for David Fowler he got hammered on social media when he made his comments about the young brigade probably having no life experience over at punters.com.au . He was the one copping the flack but I just think that is the view of a hell of a lot of the people up here involved in the sunshine state. Its 2016, get with the times people, what those guys have done with their site (and recent sale) is simply amazing and they are the type of people clubs should be trying to talk to or get involved with as they reach the target audience.

Even a smaller site like Brissyraces can have 5000+ twitter followers but clubs/organisations can say ‘we don’t deal with websites.’

Remember, just like you guys in your big office, we all have to start somewhere…..
