On ‘THE PUNT’ in Melbourne!

Print Friendly

Well I lost this preview when nearly finished so obviously this is going to be shorter!

I have decided to hand pick a few races at ‘The Valley’ and find a few that should race well.

*To tell you the truth, I’d be a lot more interested in going easy and saving most my coin for Flemington next week.

As always you can hear a chat with AJ at www.helter-skelter.com.au each Saturday morning..

*** I WILL KICK OFF WITH A PREVIEW OF THE MANIKATO  Friday night**

Can’t believe the knockers of BUFFERING. Has he lost a leg? 3rd Doomben 10,000, 2nd with 58kg in the Stradbroke and was found to be sore after the first up 2nd in  the Group 1 Moir. From gate 10 they will drift across and park outside the lead, he will give a massive kick and he will get my coin e/w at $6.50 and $2.20.

SAMAREADY was incredible winning the Moir and simply has to hold that form to be the one to beat. Simply outstanding first up.

LUCKY NINE is world class. All reports are there is plenty of improvement in him but don’t sell him short.

I honestly think TEMPLE OF BOOM will run a race here. He went very well last start (late) and with the sting out he will get to the outside and run over a few. The more rain the better!

On Top:  2- BUFFERING  $6.50

Next Best:  10- SAMAREADY,  1- LUCKY NINE, 3- TEMPLE OF BOOM

RACE 3:

RICHIE’s VIVE was backed off the map and had his chance last start. Dunn rides MV better than anyone and he gets his chance to atone here.

The Malua horse HENWOOD gets my cash each way here. Just looks a safe option from the good gate, sits midfield and attacks the line. Has won or placed in 11 of his 14.

VIBRANT ROUGE best of the rest and a live chance.

On Top:  5- HENWOOD  e/w  $5.50

RACE 4:

Not a lot to note here, hard to split-

ROTHERA who gets conditions to suit and always runs well when that’s the case.

HIOCTANE who is 4th up and ready to improve sharply.Matt Dunn Racing

BEL THOR who may spot them a start but if you can make ground he will hit the line hard.

Respecting OPINION that Waller has but would like to see him. Possibly worth a box Trifecta with the other three.

Working around – 3- ROTHERA  $12   – 9 HIOCTANE  $8  and 11- BEL THOR  $8.50

RACE 5:

SAVVY NATURE looks a star in the making and love the fact he has blinkers going on. Genuine Group 1 horse.

The quinella horse may be TIPS AND BEERS who looks promising but this may all just come a touch early for him compared to the fav.

On Top:  1- SAVVY NATURE

Race 8:

Really good little race and feel there will be punters happy with odds about a few here. Not many in better form than SPEEDINESS and some will fall over to get the $6. Just needs a pinch of luck from gate 2.

One of my fav’s is TOYDINI $3.10 and he looks to just about peak here. Extremely talented miler and gets a great run.

Although I am concerned that TOYDINI could outsprint SACRED FALLS, he does look well placed her. SACRED FALLS $4.40 meets him 2.5kg better off and Waller seems very upbeat to be heading the Melbourne direction. He should get the right run.

On Top: 9- SACRED FALLS

Hardest To Beat:  10- TOYDINI,  3- SPEEDINESS.

RACE 9:

Depending on how the track is playing I feel EPINGLE is worth thought for exotic/quaddies . She is around $19+, loves the sting out and is underrated. Nolen will need to be good if the rail is ‘off’ at this stage, so be a little wary.

LAKE SENTENTIA is the horse to beat and this is a great race for her on a track she is unbeaten on.

Value:  5- EPINGLE

Hardest To Beat:  2- LAKE SENTENTIA

Race 10:  THE COX PLATE 2040m

Nobody knows who will lead. I’d expect SHAMUS AWARD to hold the front and PUISSANCE DE LUNE likely to sit outside the lead, or roll to the front if need be.

I have heard plenty of opinions here and it surprises me that PUISSANCE DE LUNE is still only $4.40 because not many are coming up with him!

I’m very keen on him here. He gets the track to suit and is now rock hard fit! The Turnbull is always the best form and he was great. Again people knocked the run? Beaten 0.2L and beat the eventual Caulfield Cup winner at the same time… Doesn’t look bad to me. If Melham gets it right I think he wins.

FIORENTE is flying and has a sprint very few can match. He will be looking for the pace to be put on from the 1000m so he can get home hard. Waterhouse likes them to sit as close as possible, any chance she tries to be positive out of the gates??

Completely understand most coming up with IT’S A DUNDEEL, however I can’t remember the last time a horse has had a hoof problem, missed a run, changed the shoes he will carry on that foot and win a feature Group 1 race? He has also had 1 run here where he was never comfortable and was beaten at around $1.30 in the Vase last year. He can win, no doubt about it, he just won’t be carrying mine.

MASKED MARVEL, FORTELLER, REKINDLED INTEREST and GREEN MOON a few at odds I will throw in First 4’s and Double Trio’s.

On Top:  8 – PUISSANCE DE LUNE
