IPSWICH CUP DAY– Let’s get into it!blackbook

FRIDAY, 13 JUNE 2014

Fuscus – Doomben R3 No.2 (1350m):

Circuit Breaker – Doomben R3 No.3 (1350m):

Anymore – Ipswich R8 No.12 (1350m): Tough race, would rather a big track but is underrated.

Race 1:

Really liked the look of FOUR STRINGS but gate 11 and the weight has scared me off.Piney BBQ

LENNIES CHOICE and I’M COOL were touted as horses on the rise but both have not lived up to expectations. Hard to write them off as they may well have matured, don’t feel either have got in real well at the weights but have good gates which is usually crucial here.

LUCKY BAA should go forward and will look the winner. Last preparation went to a new level and further improvement would mean another win.

Reckon TIME TO PLUNDER is in ok after the claim for Holt- 57kg with the speed on should allow him to get home hard. 1100m may look a touch short but I will have something small on for an interest.

LA TIKKA ROSA not the worst.

Race 2:

This race has me beat. The top two have lengths on them but have drawn gates 10 and 11 and have 58-59kg respectively. They are the class and rocket early but with plenty of speed drawn underneath they have a tough task and may well start under the odds which is a concern.

What can beat them? That’s the question I don’t think many are that handy. The Heinrich team is flying and we don’t know much about them.

Have always had time for VELOZ and GOLD BUTTONS, both pretty handy and can run good here if they get the breaks. Always been a big fan of GRAPEVINE, she doesn’t seem to be going as well as I thought she would but may still be looking for best form and this race may work out for her.

*Not getting involved, just looking for value*

Race 3:

Just about the hardest race of the day with many different form lines.

Leaning to BIG WHEELS (SCRATCHED)who doesn’t come through the best form race but who should improve the most. He is 3rd up here and hasn’t had a lot of racing in the last 12 months. Last year he won a couple of race at Toowoomba by 8.5L each and was then a moral beaten in town over 1800m. From gate 1 he will need a bit of luck on the corner but he does interest me!

EXTREME MOVER $21 and KING LUDWIG (SCRATCHED)$17 come through the Toowoomba Cup and I like that form, drop back in trip not an issue. They are value for first 4’s.

The two horses with the right gate and weight are THAT’LLBEGOOD (SCRATCHED) who is a model of consistency and REVITALISE who is getting back to his best form for team Meagher.

Race 4:

Really, really interesting lead up for HOW FAIRDINKUM. I was on this bloke in this race last year and he ran super (2nd beaten 0.5L). I reckon they have set the horse up here, 4th run back and his last run was over the sprint trip which he went really well in. They have got the gate, the jockey and claim they would have been after and now it is to just get the result!

I can barney on about a heap of others in the race but just feel he  is  the horse best placed and the best bet in the race.

Race 5:

Always good speed in this race and expect it again. Was really keen JAZZ SONG but the main query is a 3yr old filly running 3 weeks straight? She was super on the back up last week and if she runs that way again she will trouble them. Gets a lovely run in transit.

AVALADYLUCK would love a drop of rain but can still win on top of the ground. Should have won last start, gets in with 54kg and should be able to settle around midfield which is perfect.

PICKABEE spots them a start from the gate. Will need some luck and has a job from out there but will be strong late.

GRIANTE should roll forward for Dunn and is the horse to beat. She is rock hard fit, comes back from 1600m where she was terrific and will give them something to catch.

*Good race as it usually is*

Hardest To Beat:  5- JAZZ SONG,  9- GRIANTE,  2- PICKABEE

Race 6:

Another race usually full of pace, not so much this year and I want to land in the first 5-6.

MASTHEAD jumps off the page with recent form and should be competitive. The big question is where does Munce land from out there? He did beat a few of these home in the QTC cup but may need a bit of luck today but can’t say no as he is one of the class runners.

Think BLACK CASH and ALMA’S FURY that both come out of the QTC CUP can both settle in the top 4-5 in the running and be extremely hard to run down. BLACK CASH was 3 wide the entire trip and the run was a beauty, while ALMA’S FURY clearly needed the run and should strip much, much fitter here, even with the 59kg he is a player. BLACK CASH gets a 1kg weight pull this time around.

INTO THE RED is the youngster who is good on his day but mixes form…. Gets the good gate so have to show some respect of the good 3 yr old form.

(Hard to split the 3 I have on top)

On Top:   6- BLACK CASH     4- MASTHEAD —    1- ALMA’S FURY

 Matt Dunn Racing

Race 7:

A very even affair with good speed as there usually is in the Cup around the tight track.

IRONSTEIN is the class runner and with the weight scale the way it is I am very keen to play him. His form is more than good enough, comes into this 4th up from a spell and should be rock hard fit now. From gate 6 he should get every chance to settle in the perfect spot and at $5 + $2 on www.tatts.com that seems like a pretty fair price.

GARUD has always promised to deliver in a race like this. Not sure Ipswich would suit him best but is right in it if he gets around the track.

Gotta respect anything Moody brings and FULL OF SPIRIT (SCRATCHED) falls into that. She beat home IRONSTEIN last start and has to be a leading chance at a nice price in a weak cup.

BRAVE ALI is a front runner who will be suited by the track and VOLKHERE may be the best roughie for first 4’s.

Race 8:

Cracking way to finish the day. Value everywhere and nothing would surprise.

Always say I can’t catch ARCHITECT and that hasn’t changed, what I have to say though is he has been going better than ever and only needs luck in running to go very close here, has a terrific last sectional in him!

COMACINA is going places, unbeaten at this stage and should again get the pace on to be able to run on. Gate 9 is a little sticky but at $10 I’m prepared to think that’s value. SANTOYA CAT meets him better at the weights and shouldn’t be far away again.

FRIENDLY DRAGON $15 and FEROCITY FAIR $31 are value runners for sure. They come through the wet track race at the Sunny coast and would expect them to run well here. Would also contemplate ANYMORE $15 if it was a bigger track, smart horse who will need luck.

L’ENTRECOTE gets the gun run for the in-form J.Byrne. Will get every chance from there. WALKIN’ TALL will push forward from the wide gate and has improved every run with dominant wins lately.

Don’t have to explain how good OLYMPIC ANTHEM is, nearly won a QLD Guineas. The gate makes it hard but he is a class act.

On Top:  8- COMACINA  $10

(A race with about 10 chances)

Race 4 No.3- HOW FAIRDINKUM  $7

Race 7 No.2-  IRONSTEIN  $5

BRISBANE Quadrella:  (Will be updated Saturday morning 9am) Going skinny for a nice pay with IRONSTEIN one out..
