Thoughts on a few interstate and the Cox Plate

*This is just some thoughts around the place. Never that keen interstate and most of these races have a few chances, just thought i’d mention a few to consider or throw in quaddies etc.

We have the Eagle Farm preview up. The BEST BETS ARE OVER ON THE other preview*

Sydney Race 5 No.7-MADAME ROUGE $4.60

Looks really well placed by Waller. Had the fresh run over 1300m, back to 1200m and should push forward in a race run to suit. Very good over the winter and the fresh run in a HOT race looks good form.

Sydney Race 6 No.7- MASTER OF WINE $2.70

Looks a progressive stayer on the way up. Up in grade and up in weight far from ideal but think Clark will be patient while still being wary not to lose sight of the bunny. Loved the way he went through the line last start.

Sydney Race 7 No.5-BOTTEGA $4.50

Hearts telling me THINKIN’ BIG and KUBRICK will be extremely hard to beat. Prepared to forgive BOTTEGA last start where he needed a miracle from where he was. Boss goes on and the blinkers go on. Should be strong late and Boss is airborne at present.

Sydney Race 9 No.3-SURE KNEE $5.50

Usually avoid girls giving weight to the boys. SURE KNEE does have a touch of class and the fresh run was excellent. That was at bm88 grade, drops to bm78 grade here and gets a good gate. Schofield just has to hold a spot midfield and let the horse creep into it as Williams did the day she drew gate 1 at Flemington. Many chances but happy to have something on at the price.

COX PLATE THOUGHTS FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH:

Hard to see the fav getting rolled here LYS GRACIEUX. She’s a very nice mare and her best would be good enough. The gate is just sticky enough to make it awkward around the tight track for Lane and that does give others a hope.

MAGIC WAND $15 is the horse I’ve warmed to. I like her style, she can hold a spot from the gate and she can be right there at the 800m when the pressure starts to get applied. She has run 2nd in four of her last five but three of those were at G1 level.

Can make a case for most horses here but I’ve had a win bet MAGIC WAND and I had a quinella of MAGIC WAND and LYS GRACIEUX.
