Sunshine Coast trainer Jason McLachlan has already struck during the carnival in Melbourne with Facile Tigre winning and also running a close second in his two starts at Caulfield.
This weekend he has the stable star Phelan Ready in the 1200m Salinger Stakes at Flemington. Jason thought he might have run a touch better last start but feels there are a lot of things in Phelan Ready’s favour this week. “I was a little disappointed in his last run but it was a funny run 1400m race with no pace, and he got a little stirred up. He will be far better suited down the straight over 1200m on Saturday. If there is a bit of rain it will bring the horse right into the race.” McLachlan told brissyraces.com.au.
That can be the real key for this horse in my opinion, he ticks all the boxes to run a good race at big odds. He like the sting out, has raced well down the straight and 1200m is his pet trip. Jason and his late father Bruce have done a great job with this horse without a lot of luck along the way. (except of course in the ones that mattered- Magic Millions and Golden Slipper). He will run well on Saturday and a win would not surprise.
The stables other runner will be on Melbourne Cup day. Facile Tigre will run in the listed 1200m race down the Flemington straight and Jason said both horses will then be on their way back to Queensland.
Let’s hope one or both can win a race and give Queensland a bit of time in the sun over the Melbourne Cup week!
