QUEENSLAND’S GROUP QUINELLA
It was a thrilling Queensland quinella in the Group Two Victory Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
One of Australia’s best sprinters, Queensland’s Buffering, (pictured) returned to his top form with a barrier to box victory.
Another Queensland star, Spirit of Boom, by Sequalo fought on doggedly but couldn’t reach Buffering in the 1200m trip and was beaten by 31/2 lengths.
Jockey Damian Browne believes an elusive Group One is within reach for Buffering after his brilliant first-up win.Story here…
A WIN BY BIG MARGINS
Well known Toowoomba owner Kim McCasker, of Laurie’s Lottery fame, may have unearthed another star in promising stayer Margins.
The 4yo, by Queensland sire Parameter, took out the Listed Mount Franklin Tails Stakes (2100m) in emphatic fashion at Doomben on Saturday.
Settling back off the speed, jockey Tim Bell made a long run and the Ben Currie-trained gelding put the issue beyond doubt in the final 200m winning easily by two lengths.
His target is the Group 1 Brisbane Cup, if he measures up in the coming weeks.
MORE QTIS BONUSES IN THE KITTY
More than $53,000 of QTIS bonus money will be re-allocated after last week’s program.
Only $81,400 of the $135,000 in QTIS cash was won by eligible horses in the twelve QTIS races scheduled across the State.
The big loss was in the QTIS feature at Doomben on Saturday.
$35,000 was up for grabs, but only Vo Heart, who ran second, was a QTIS horse and collected $17,000 ($7,000 QTIS) for his efforts.

IT’S ALL IN THE POCKET
The TBQA would like to thank Kevin Dixon and Racing Queensland for their ongoing commitment to rescheduling washed-out race meetings.
The latest meeting to be transferred was the rain affected program on Saturday April 13th.
One of the big races to be moved to Wednesday April 17th at Doomben was the $100,000 Listed Queensland Day 3YO Plate (1350m) for 3YOs.
As it turned out, it was a lucrative quinella for Raheen Stud.
Their former stallion Mearas (now deceased) sired his first stakes-winner when 3YO gelding On the Pocket (Mearas-Licata, by Canny Lad) (pictured courtesty Dan Costello Racing) scored by 0.4-length for trainer L.Gough.More details…
