Well I thought I’d be clever this morning and catch up with a couple of trainers that I thought would have a bit of news for us, but I was actually a bit slow on some of the news.
A rang Ben Currie from Toowoomba about his quality stayer MARGINS who was really good his first two runs back over unsuitable short trips, but unfortunately the horse has another bad injury and will require at least 6 months off. It is a cruel blow for Currie as he had done a great job with the horse and had him flying again. The horse was nominated for all the big races in Melbourne and although he may not have qualified he would have more than measured up in some of the country cups done south.
I also had a chat with astute Brisbane trainer Dan Bougoure. He was one of Queensland’s most active buyers at this year’s sales and purchased some very well bred yearlings (now two year olds). Dan was telling me at the Wayne Wilson medal that a few had shown nice ability so I thought we should see how they have progressed. The youngster that has shown a lot of ability and that should step out soon is a Fastnet Rock youngster. (The name is Tip Top Tiger but I can’t find the correct spelling, sorry). Dan is very happy with the horse and I think it will have a big future.
We will catch up with Dan after the 2 year old runs and by that stage I think his website will be up and running. I’m sure the stable are in for a really good run in the coming years!
**Also for those who hadn’t caught up with the news from a few weeks ago Cam Partington is the new manager for Jimmy Byrne. Cam is a terrific bloke and an unbelievably hard worker, so I’d expect the partnership to lead to a lot of success. Nice to see they kicked off with a winner on Saturday too. Good luck to the boys.
**After an exciting weekends racing there have been a few connections that named races their horses are most likely to contest. As always they can change, but this is what they are running with at the moment.
Lloyd Williams: MOURAYAN- MacKinnon Stakes into Melbourne Cup.
GREEN MOON- Cox Plate into Melbourne Cup.
SEVILLE- Caulfield/Melbourne Cups.
Graham Begg: SECRET ADMIRER- Caulfield Cup.
Peter Moody– MOMENT OF CHANGE- Out of spring (injured)
