Racing news and updates

With news breaking all the time over the Spring carnival I will try to make a regular ‘racing snippets’ article. It can just be a simple article on some racing news that keeps racing followers up to date on important information through the major carnival.

There has been plenty happening and here is the latest.

**John Bary the trainer of Jimmy Choux has told radio Tab this morning that he now plans to run the star in NZ Saturday week in the (former) Kelt Capital stakes over 2040m. This will then leave three weeks to prepare for the cox plate.

**The handicappers have issued some penalties for the big cups races. December Draw received 2kg in the Caulfield cup taking him too 52kg, and 1.5kg in the Melbourne cup. This means Michael Rodd should be able to ride the horse if everything pans out the way it is expected to. If Americain and Alandi don’t accept in the Caulfield cup, weights will be raised 2kg as the topweight must carry 57kg in that race. Also Green Moon the impressive winner of the Newcastle cup was given 0.5kg in the cups, but will need to win a lead up race to make the field in either cups. He is entered in the Metropolitan 2400m.

**Sepoy trialled very well at Cranbourne and ran the quickest time of the day. All reports are the horse is doing very well.

**Classy Victorian mare Warm Love become ill last week and has unfortunately lost the battle and has passed away. She had won over $350,000 for connections.

**Fox Hunt has won the German St Leger and is being talked about as a possible Melbourne cup horse. As with all the overseas horses, you never know till they land here, so watch this space.

**Manawanui will line up in this weekend’s Stan Fox 1500m.

**With Michael Rodd suspended, Damien Oliver has picked up the prize ride on Atlantic Jewel this Saturday.

**Smart Missile will run in the Sir Rupert Clarke with 53kg, while Queensland star Woorim has 57.5kg. (I think that weight is a bit unfair, but he can win)

**Heart Of Dreams has a leg injury and will be out for the rest of the Spring.

**Greg Eurell has indicated that Red Colossus and Pinker Pinker will be running in the Epsom in Sydney.

**Keep an eye out over the next week as we should have our next edition of “One On One” with a Brisbane racing identity.
