Ramornie Day selections (Wednesday)

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The first two days of the carnival have been good, even fields and the track has played well. The little bit of rain last week should still keep it pretty fair, some years when there has been no rain the fence can be the place but usually the tempo is the main deciding factor on this track so speedmaps are very important.

Let’s get to it, feel free to text or email link to any racing mates!

(Not sure if there will be time but follow @brissyraces on Twitter and if I can update from the yard I will)

*Prices are at time of typing so can obviously move in or out*

Race 1:

Gates have turned this upside down. Would have been very keen FOXY FOXINATOR from a good draw but from gate 13 it’s a task with so much speed underneath. Is a nice horse with a future so can still win.

Everything about MRS CHRISTMAS looks a set up for a bet. Rising 5yr old having first start so much have shown ability? Does have a nice action and off the trials she could surprise but is another who needs a good ride from the gate.

THE EULO QUEEN can lead them up, the last 50m is the concern.

(IF VERNAZZA runs I’d say she wins but as I type I’m assuming she goes to Thursday)

*Working around FOXY FOXINATOR and MRS CHRISTMAS but the gates are my concern.

Race 2:

Another race with just enough annoying speed to make it tricky for some main hopes to find a spot.

SHEAR VOGUE will be suited back to this trip and she has been racing better horses than these. Won three runs back here with Fuji on top, can repeat the dose if she gets it ok up front.

I’LL TAKE MONEY will also be better suited at the 1100m as she has been weak late her last couple.

ISLAND GRANGE for Thompson will have to be positive from gate 11 and try to find a spot, don’t want to be caught 3 wide with the big weight but recent runs say she can win if Thompson can find cover.

ROYAL EQUIANO up to these but wide gate for Rikki Palmer means a lot needs to go right, can win with luck.

*Hard to get excited about these.

On Top: 8-SHEAR VOGUE $5

Hardest To beat:  2-ISLAND GRANGE,  11-I’LL TAKE MONEY, 5-ROYAL EQUIANO

Race 3:

Been waiting for acceptances because TEVYE was dropping back to 1100m and is screaming to win a race. This is very suitable, even from the wide gate he will lead these and get it ok in front, he gets his chance.

TEXAS RED however will box seat on TEVYE’s back and these two are likely to gap the rest and have a two horse war down the entire straight. TEXAS RED was a winner on debut, then got back to last in a massive field but reeled off the 2nd fastest last split of the race that day. He gets the gun run and every chance with Corey Brown on top.

Might not be enough speed up front for NO QUALMS but he should clearly be the best of the backmarkers. Has a good finish and can go in trifecta’s. SIMPLY STRIKING on the back up from last week where it was ok and goes in exotics here.

*Surprised if the quinella doesn’t come from 3,4,7 but expecting 3 and 4 to fight it out.. Can’t believe TEXAS STORM went up $8 and TEVYE $6

On Top:  3-TEXAS STORM $8

Hardest To Beat: 4-TEVYE $6

Other for tri’s: 7-SIMPLY STRIKING, 10-NO QUALM $34

Race 4:

Good tempo with 2,3,6,7 all wanting to lead, they will be the first four settling.

HONOUR’N’STRENGTH and TEN TAUBADAS probably the best of the leaders, would prefer TEN TAUBADAS with more of an edge off the track but he can kick off a good speed and always runs well (good luck to my mates involved in him). HONOUR’N’STRENGTH bolted in three back but gee he is hard to catch, i’m sure they stamp him urgent here and although beaten a long way his last couple they have been against Manaya, Bluebrook etc who would kick these horses heads in to.

GIDDYUP creates intrest. I feel when Hayes trained they were one dimensional in just leading every time on the horse. She has had two starts for Godbolt and feel they have ridden too far back. From a good gate there is no reason they don’t hold a spot 4th-5th right on the leaders back and give her every chance off the good speed.

JEXERLENT right up to these but punting on horses with big weights, wide gates and apprentices on isn’t that inviting. There is a chance it lands outside GIDDYUP in the run and if they go hard it’s still a chance.

EIGHT BELOW would be competitive on the old Brisbane form. Fresh run ok and this stable usually wins one over the carnival.

*Leaning GIDDYUP but want a decent price to bet in an even race.

On Top: 4- GIDDYUP $7

Next Best:  2-HONOUR’N’STRENGTH,  7-TEN TAUBADAS, 1-JEXELENT, 10-EIGHT BELOW

Race 5:

One of the hardest races on the card.

Leaders will be SOCIAL CONQUEST, MISS POLLY BEAT, SALAD DODGER and FOUND OUT, feel they are four of the leading hopes as well, throw in IT’S RELATIVE and RISALDOR as possible swoopers. Tough gig sorting them out.

Won’t be going sill on the punt here but unfortunately it’s the first leg of the quaddie.

Like the booking of El’Issa on MISS POLLY BEAT and some of Webb’s team have grown a leg up here, MISS POLLY BEAT will be fitter for recent runs and ready to show best here. FOUND OUT comes out of better races in melb, change of stables and might need to see her in the yard to see how much work she’s had, but you’d expect right to go. SALAD DODGER put in a couple of good runs and was ok in a good hway race.IT’S RELATIVE lacks the killer turn of foot but consistently puts himself in the race.

*Nothing would surprise here, no stars amongst them. Maybe small bet MISS POLLY BEAT for an interest.

On Top: 8-MISS POLLY BEAT $11

Others for Quad: 1,2,4,5,6

Race 6:

This race is seriously challenging the Ramornie this year and a far better punting affair than the Cup in my opinion!

Decent tempo which should give the all a chance.

CHALMERS looks one of the most progressive in this field, like the fact he draws a gate and like the fact he won over the mile last start. Had a trial since to stay on top of his game. Loses JMAC but Newitt takes the ride. Can sit around 5th-6th without spending a penny and expect them to push the button on the corner and he’s on top.

NICCI’S GOLD has been excellent around the bm80 grade in Syd. Myabe 1400m could be her best trip and she has 58kg but with a decent tempo you can be confident she’ll be as good as anything late.

MISHANI BULLITT was given no hope at G2 level two runs back and was again 3 wide the entire in sunny coast guineas. Not well off at the weights here spotting a couple out of that race a few kgs worse off but can land outside CHALMERS and is a winning hope.

BOLD ASSASIN and UNIQUE MAGIC were both good at the sunny coast and both in well at the weights here.

The one runner it’s impossible to line up is HARD RULER. He has been in lower grade and on wet tracks, has blown away a couple of ok horses the last two runs. Keeping safe in a good stable and goes in exotics.

*Cracking race.

On Top:  4-CHALMERS $4.60

Next Best:  2-NICCI’S GOLD,  1-MISHANI BULLITT, 6-UNIQUE MAGIC

Roughie: 11-HARD RULER

Race 7: The Ramornie

Another good edition of The Ramornie.

Usually the go lickety split in this but I don’t see a great tempo, THE MONSTAR should be able to lead at a comfortable tempo and can go one better than last year. Carries the same weight as he did last year and comes off a G2 win two runs back. Back to 1200m and $11 looks a pretty fair price.

TYZONE and MALVERN ESTATE get the guns runs here. MALVERN ESTATE was poor last start but he is far better than that. TYZONE has grown a leg at the Edmonds camp and was within a whisker of winning the Eye Liner. Colless goes on and hard to beat.

HAVASAY just need some luck from gate 2 as he’ll get back and swoop late. Last run was outstanding when set an impossible task.

BELFLYER my best roughie, will try to hold a spot midfield and is always strong through the line.

ZESTFUL has a class edge on most of this field. Her get back pattern is the big concern but class will mean she’s hard to hold out.

You might have even spotted old SIEGFRIED all bottled up and nowhere to go last start. Not the worst for first fours at $41.

*Just going with THE MONSTAR off the speedmap.

On Top:  1-THE MONSTAR $11

Hardest To Beat:  5-TYZONE, 6-HAVASAY, 2-ZESTFUL, 14-BELFLYER

Race 8:

Well the TAB went up $16 on BRILLIANT JET which is a crazy price!! The horse had decent Tassie form and only got beaten a few lengths in a Hobart cup…. The fresh run at Ipswich was very good and Endless Days who this horse was better than come out and ran 3rd in town last week. No such thing as a ‘good thing’ but as $16 he was a fantastic bet. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t start fav!

GLEN ORD is the only other horse I could back personally. Been going ok, ride wasn’t great last start and the run before that behind Great Glen was very good, beat home Miss Dubois that day and she is in the cup.

*Extremely happy I got some of the $16, now I just need to make sure the ‘overs’ god doesn’t step in! Reckon he’s still a bet anything e/w.

On Top: 1-BRILLIANT JET $16 (into $10 as i type)

Next Best: 6-GLEN ORD

Gibbo’s Best Bets:

Race 6 No.4- CHALMERS

Race 8 No.1- BRILLIANT JET

Best e/w

Race 3 No.3- TEXAS STORM (if stays around e/w price)
