Revised — Melbourne ‘The Punt’ preview

Print Friendly

Alright, after a false start we may get some type of ‘The Punt’ section up!

For those who are getting on brissyraces for the first time, we usually have a big Brisbane preview. However with all the meetings being abandoned etc we will now go over the quadrella legs at SANDOWN for Saturday, and some Quaddie selections for tonight’s meeting at Moonee Valley.

Here are the MOONEE VALLEY quad numbers:

2,3 —1,3 —1,3,5,7 —4,9,13

*Let’s get down to business at SANDOWN to see if I can help steer you in the right direction. Before we get to the quaddie legs I will give you a couple in Races 2, 3 + 4 that I think can run well.

Race 2 no 7 APRES

*Has been down on luck, but Nickolic gets a great run midfield here.

*Form around him is pretty good and he can break his run of 2nd’s.

*I do feel the $2.40 on offer may be a bit too short at the moment. Hope he gets to a better price tomorrow..

Race 3 no. 2 SEDUCED (SCRATCHED)

*She is a nice mare who simply hasn’t won many because of her racing pattern.

*Again she will need a touch of luck from the gate, but she is dropping from a Listed race to a 0-82 mares race!

*At $6 on TATTSBET I think she is worth something on e/w.

Race 4 no. 6 AMOUR CACHE

*Three runs back this time have been full of promise.

*Ran well behind a very good one 2 starts ago.

*Looks well placed in an even type of race.

*Another worth thought e/w.

***Let’s look at the quaddie legs.

RACE 5: ‘The Prophet’ is pretty keen to have something on KALLOGG ($10) here, so it should be kept very safe. Any of numbers 1 through 7 would not surprise! I would be here all day going through each ones form, so I will simply be sticking with the prophet and going wide in the first leg of the quadrella.

*Wide in Quadrella.

RACE 6: Another wide one for the quaddie! There should be plenty of pace early and give a chance for all horses to make ground. Some big chances have drawn ordinary gates which will make it tough, but I have put one of them on top. UNDER THE HAT is a nice horse who I think will keep improving this prep and is good odds at $13 + $4 on www.tatts.com . Noonan will need to get some type of cover, but if he does I think this son of Helenus can run over them late. In saying that it is still very open. Not sure what went wrong with LORD OF ARMS when he came north, but he gets a nice run in transit and is a winning chance. BEN ZENA gets in with a good weight and was solid last start when he was posted wide and did it tough. ‘The Prophet’ has put it on top. ADAMS BELL is another who should push forward and can run well. COSTA IN THE GLEN will do it hard from the bad gate and may get posted wide. If he can get a tow into the race he will challenge at some stage. The bottom two who have got a run now ADAMON and VALEDICTORIAN are both winning chance in another open race!

On Top: 4-UNDER THE HAT

Hardest To Beat: 9-BEN ZENA,  18-VALEDICTORIAN, 17-ADAMON

RACE 7: Race full of handy types. Have always had a lot of time for MOTORISED but happy to go with HENWOOD after a good debut. That was a decent race for a debut and with improvement into this, and a nice weight he can be hard to beat. Should get a good run from the gate and King stays on. MOTORISED is $8 and the stable have always had a wrap on him. Although he didn’t set the world on fire with his win at Terang, he can win here at odds. CHAMANDI gets the 3kg claim which brings him into this. Extremely well bred and should get a gun run throughout. WHISPER DOWNS showed enough in his first prep to make you throw him in the quad . He could be a real improver. INSTALLMENT, GOGONSKI, FAST BUCKS and BOMBALATOMBA all have some chance and can have a case made for them.

On Top: 9-HENWOOD

Next Best: 5-MOTORISED, 1-CHAMANDI, 3-WHISPER DOWNS

RACE 8: Happy to stick with two main chances in the last. PAGO ROCK resumes for Moody and has won 3 from 3 first up. Think he may be well above avg and is well and truly up to this. LIKE AN EAGLE  will sit 4th or 5th in the run for Oliver and get a soft run. Should get every chance and looked highly impressive in his Perth wins (won 5 from 8 over there).

*They look the main hopes.

On Top: 6-LIKE AN EAGLE

Hardest To Beat: 5-PAGO ROCK,

**It has blown me away, but Brisbane has been given the go ahead this morning… Who knows how many races they will squeeze in, but here is my preview of the first three races at Doomben. (sorry for the scattered preview this week, just thought I would get as much up as possible)

RACE 1: So much depends on which horses run Friday night at the Sunny Coast??? There are a lot of dual acceptors, so we may be wasting our time. If LADY COLOURS runs she would be the way I’d go. She was very impressive all campaign until she found some bad luck in a pretty hot Magic Millions. She is above average and has won on a wet track when leading, which she should nearly do again here. PLATINUM STATE and ANTARCTIC DREAM both look to have a lot of upside and can run well. WATTLE WARRIOR has Colless on for Matt Dunn stable and is by the wet track sire Easy Rocking, so keep safe.

On Top: 1-LADY COLOURS

Next Best: 4-ANTARCTIC DREAM, , 8-WATTLE WARRIOR

RACE 2: MISS BARWANG is a model of consistency and jumps to the 1600m here. Shouldn’t be a problem on breeding being by Anabaa and out of a Zabeel mare. Most would be surprised she hasn’t raced this trip yet. Was strong late at the Gold Coast and she is more than up to this class now. DEMANDING MISS is the main danger and always competitive in races like this, and meets MISS BARWANG better off at the weights from last start. A genuine wet track may be a slight issue.. Don’t really want to get to deep into this outside them, but PRIMED is good but not a noted wet tracker. DANCE IDOL and KISS ME DEADLY do handle it and can run well. Not sure what to make of the massive ONETIMEATBANDCAMP?

On Top: 3-MISS BARWANG

Next Best: 6-DEMANDING MISS, 10-DANCE IDOL

Race 3: Another race that is not worth getting too worked up over. Main chances to 4,5,7,8. ROYAL REIGN has really disappointed this time in work so I can’t put him on top, but he gets some weight relief and a wet track which both suit. HONOURABLE AUSSIE (SCRATCHED) is not a noted wet tracker which is a worry, but should find the front here and is in good form. MAJESTIC SOUND hasn’t missed a place in its last 4 runs and go’s ok in the wet. WINMARA is simply a ‘mudlark’ and must be respected. JAZZ HEART is the one who can pop up every now and then, and does like the wet.

*Silly race now after scratchings…… PASS

**In the feature race, the Listed Nudgee for fillies and mares I like :

Race 7 no 7 CHEAP THRILLS- A real wet tracker for Kris Lees who knows how to pick off a race up here.

BRISSY QUADRELLA numbers: (Going a touch wide becuase of the heavy 10 conditions)

2,3,5,7 — 4,5,7,12,13 — 2,3,7,8,10 — 7,10,11

**So there you have it. A different ‘The Punt’ section this week, and a bit rushed, but I hope it helps in some way!

**Thanks for checking in. Make sure you check back in next week for a lot of blackbookers, and of course the latest news and interviews…
