Risk Aversion resumes

Every now and then through the midweek races there are some really nice types kick off their preparations. Tomorrow is one of those occasions where we see a lightly raced mare with a lot of upside resume.

Risk Aversion is in race one at Doomben for trainer Michael Lakey. She has only had the two career starts so far, with the first being a narrow defeat on a heavy track and the other a very strong win over Shezamyth before having a break. I asked Michael if she had trialled and what he expected of her at Doomben. “She had one short trial and I was really happy and she just finished in behind them. We just rode her quite, she hit the line pretty well, and the form out of the trial looks alright. She is fit enough but is going from a maiden to a class 4, so it is a jump in class.” Lakey said.

He also said that she is well related and is a natural galloper. The stable have never asked her to do much and they feel that she will just keep improving.

Michael expects Risk Aversion to run well and I’m pretty keen to see how she goes first up. She would be helped if they run along a bit, and will be better over a little further, but she is a nice type and we can expect her to be very hard to beat.
