Rundle chance for Sandown

Although the focus is well and truly on Melbourne I was taken by the win of Rundle on the weekend in Brisbane and decided to catch up with Kelly Purdy to find out more on the Lloyd Williams cast off and the plans she has for him after what looked like a very soft win on the weekend over 1800m on a heavy track.

“He’s a big horse with a big stride and the bigger track helped as Ipswich bought him undone with the rail out 9m. He is a lovely horse and a pleasure to have around. He is around 540kg and didn’t lose any weight from the race.” Purdy said.

That is a great sign for Kelly moving forward and she is very happy at where the horse is, and has picked out another very suitable race for the son of Galileo in a couple of weeks time. “There is a race for him in a fortnight’s time over 2000m at Doomben under set weights conditions, so that will suit him as he is a class 4 horse. We are looking at the Sandown classic, but he really has to win next time and win convincingly to warrant going down there.”  Purdy commented.

If the win on the weekend was anything to go by you would expect Rundle to be winning and making his way down to Melbourne at the end of the carnival. Kelly is doing a fantastic job with her stable and she actually picked the horse out at the sales for existing stable clients. I am sure those owners are now very excited about next years winter carnival with a stayer that could very well keep improving into next season.
