Russian Revolution adds another Group 1 to the tally

Russian Revolution – the successful Easter colt who is now one of the most valuable stallion prospects in racing – added the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate to his impressive resume at Caulfield today.

It was the second career Group 1 for the 4YO entire, who has now won seven of his 11 starts for almost $1.3m prizemoney, following his win in The Galaxy at Rosehill last year.

With talk of possible retirement immediately following today’s race, a decision on Russian Revolution’s racing future will be made before too long.

“I think the investment and the collective efforts with the training team and all the people involved pays off, the patience shown with Russian Revolution where he had a rest and is just coming back now and I think that bodes well for him as he’s going to be prepared to be retired to stud,’’ China Horse Club’s Mr Teo said.

“I think we’re going to talk to the team and see what’s next for him.’’

The Oakleigh Plate also provided a Group 1 quinella for Arrowfield Stud’s Snitzel, with Snitty Kitty finishing second.

Russian Revolution (Snitzel x Ballet D’amour) was a $320,000 purchase for China Horse Club and Michael Wallace Bloodstock from the 2015 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Vinery Stud.

Vinery’s Bloodstock and Nominations manager Conor Phelan said: “He was born and raised on Vinery for good friends and breeders Brian and Noela Backshall and developed into a lovely Easter yearling.

“We are so proud to see the V brand in another Group 1 and thrilled for connections.’’

Meanwhile I Am Invincible colt Overshare overcame a strong Caulfield headwind and a protest to win the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes.

Overshare was a $320,000 Spendthrift Australia buy at the 2016 Easter Sale, form the Victoria Park draft.

The win was the 54th black-type success for Yarraman Park stallion I Am Invincible.

This year’s Easter Sale, to be held at Riverside Stables from April 9-11, received another significant pedigree update on Friday night following Pierro filly Tulip’s win in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Tulip’s Zoffany half brother (ex Musidora) is Lot 253.
