Not a bad week last weekend with GREY MISSILE and SCALLOPINI getting something for the day late. So far this week I think about 4 of my last 6 have run 2nd, sickening. We got LUCKY PROSPECTOR $7.40 up for those that followed us at Gold Coast to break the duck. Looks a pretty good card at EF this week so let’s see how we go.

Race 1:
Loved the trial of Gollans LOOMING LARGE earlier in the week. I just don’t like horses (especially 2yr olds) using that much juice a few days before racing. All the MISHANI horses are good chances so I’m just happy to watch on with an eye to the future. Liked UNCLE FRANK the other day, nice swing in the weights also.

Race 2:
SHALWA is the best placed horse all day. Gets in incredibly well under plate conditions and the claim for Baylee. If she turns up she will win.
INVIGORATING has been avg this time in but liked the trial this week and expecting sharp improvement. LASHONI will have to go back from the gate, that’s not a negative as she races better that way. She will be strong late. L’EMANTE has been great working her way through the grades, this is harder but leads for a long way. DENMAN UNLIMITED is up in grade which isn’t ideal. Out in trip and big track both positives for her.
On Top: 3-SHALWA $2.40 (not taking odds on)
Hardest To Beat: 4-INVIGORATING, 2-LASHONI, 10-DENMAN UNLIMITED, 5-L’EMANTE

Race 3:
TREVELYAN just has to go on top. Super consistent and comes out of the wave race which looks a great formline for this. Gets a nice run and it’s just a matter of R.Stewart not going for home too soon and I think he’ll be winning.
On Top: 4-TREVELYAN $2.30 (looked best for the day but after scratchings he’s $1.85 so I’ll just watch on. Not one to back them at those quotes)

Race 4:
NEW UNIVERSE does meet COOL CHAP better at the weights, just find them very hard to split. Not really a race I want to bet into. They are on top but I do expect MASTER ZEPHYR to improve out to this trip and with the winkers going on.

Race 5:
Was leaning to PIZONIE but at the price I won’t be betting. DEFENCE MISSILE may run better than the $19 suggests. I’d have backed him from a good gate. If he gets to $31 on betfair i might have a peanut on.

Race 6:
Feel the top two are clearly the best horses in the race. Felt IMPASSE would have won more races by now but some tactics and bad luck have cost him in previous preps. His fresh run was exceptional from the back and he should land midfield and be strong again here. Dunn camp have been striking at nearly 26% with horses 2nd up over the last 6 months.
MAGNUFIGHTER is the proven horse, he may need the run and the weight is a little concern. He’s just that good you know he will put himself in the race and look the winner at some stage. They went up $9 which was the wrong price. Can sit wherever they like and they don’t get any more genuine than him.
They should fight it out. Main bet is IMPASSE $4 for me and little smaller MAGNUFIGHTER (now $6)

Race 7:
Very even sort of race.
Never been in the corner of STARBUSTER but he’s going really well. Won well off the back of a great ride three back. No luck the next run and last start I felt the ride was ill timed. Box seats here and will look the winner at the 100m.
SLOW HANDS can win if he runs here. Will update if he runs Thursday or here.
ALDERMAN has had tempos that have given him a chance his last couple and he’s got the job done. He’s a better horse than I thought he was.
MISSED THE ALARM opened $17, if it gets back out to that price it’s worth a speck, will want further but can sprint well fresh and a win wouldn’t surprise.

Race 8:
Another really even race. Have liked SOVEREIGN NATION’s trials and he has a bit of class. Looks over the odds, the weight is a little concern.
FREDDIE FOX TROT (SCRATCHED) would win if he brought his best. Wide last start and might have been a bit better than it looked. Gets a better run here and expect him to be hard to beat. CRUZE is flying, travelled like the winner over a mile last start and others were just stronger late. Gee i’d be keen him if it was 1400m. Can still win, just quickly back to 1200m is the question.
Thought we’d seen the best of MANAYA and that she might have been on the slide a bit this prep until I seen her trial. It was very good and off that trials she’s a winning hope also. No knock FEMME FIREBALL who i’ve always had a wrap on.

Next Best: 1-SOVEREIGN NATION, 6-MANAYA, 7-FEMME FIREBALL

Race 9:
NAVAL STRIKE went up $34 that didn’t last long. Saddle slipped last start but was exceptional late. I’ve been waiting a long time to see him at 1400m on a big track. He just savages the line and from this gate he’s nearly certain to get to the outside and sprout wings late. My little query is he’s been going good with the blinkers off and they have put them back on him, he missed start hopelessly a couple of times with them on, I don’t think they actually improve the horse.
Plenty of others going well too. BELLS APPROACHING and EIGER was just as good in the same race last start. BELLS APPROACHING might have had an ill timed ride from Fradd, let down well but just got tired late. EIGER gets the blinkers back on, reckon that’s a key move in this. No luck last start and can be in the money.
Warming to INGEAR the closer we get. Felt she’d have gone through the grades a bit better but I do think she is a classy animal. Good gate and this track/trip should be perfect.
Many good horses that haven’t been mentioned (Haven’t got all day)
*Took the good odds NAVAL STRIKE e/w and just hope it gets a decent steer.
