Saturday on ‘The Punt’ Doomben

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Rail back to 2m after being out 8m Wednesday.

Raced well last week, not sure about three meetings in a week but not my call.

Looks a pretty good meeting, like a few on the card so let’s get down to it.

It had been a bit of a fillup for five weeks but have to say last week was a bit disappointing, only Avilius interstate and in Brisbane we only got CURDLED (and quinella that race) as well as LE JUGE (and trifecta that race) to finish the day on the right note at least.

PRICES ARE AT TIME OF TYPING AND THIS IS A VERY EARLY PREVIEW THAT WILL BE UPDATED LEADING INTO RACE DAY.

**Also other states covered over at THE RACE CLUB.

Race 1:

Very even race to start the card, can make a case for 4-5 of them but not really interested in betting.

***********************

Race 2:

Gollan has a number of high class 2yr olds and VINCERE VOLARE seems to be as good as any of them at present. Clearly the one to beat here and recent trial good.

XANTHUS will be a good horse and although it’s very hard to win on debut I expect a good run. CENTREFIRE was good after a mistimed run last start, can improve.

*Skinny trifecta here. 5/4,6

*****************************

Race 3:

He can be hard to catch but EMPHASIS looks really well placed after bumping into Bergerac a couple of times this prep, this is much easier and should be the horse to beat with a half decent ride from Lloyd.

ASTORIA has been going ok since heading up here, Fradd goes on and he will look the winner at the 150m.

On Top: 2-EMPHASIS $2.40

Hardest To Beat: 4-ASTORIA

Race 4:

SPEEDMAP:

Loved the runs of GET STUCK IN (who won as a best bet) and DRUMADOIR last start and think that’s a pretty good formline. Back to the smaller track might not be ideal for GET STUCK IN but out to the mile should suit and expecting Nothdurft to ride pretty quiet again here with a good tempo in the race but not lose sight of the bunny around Doomben. Looks very hard to beat.

DRUMADOIR surprised how well she ran last start so respecting here and TAKINGS is the best of the on pace runners, in good form and hard to catch here.

*Had this horse as a best bet but after the key scratchings he is into Odds On and no meat on the bone at all.

On Top: 4-GET STUCK IN $3.30 (into $1.95 after scratchings)

Hardest To Beat: 3-TAKINGS, 11-DRUMADOIR,

Race 5:

Well SHALWA (opened $3.40) beat up a very ordinary field at Ipswich on her qld debut but you have to like the way she did it and he Vic form was good before that, she’s not one of these cast offs that go no good, she might be more in the mold of a Snitch, Natch etc. Gets the gun run again and Stewart holds all the aces from the inside gate. It was the 1015m race and an avg day but she ran the fastest L600,400,200 of the meeting.

WINTER PASSAGE is a super consistent filly who has just run into a couple of very handy ones recently, takes on the older horses instead at CL3 level and draws a gate to sit in the first four. She will be around the money again.

*Keen on SHALWA, into $1.70 and although she should win that’s just too short.

On Top: 11-SHALWA $2.50

Hardest To Beat: 9-WINTER PASSAGE $8

Race 6:

SPEEDMAP:

As soon as markets went up they backed FUJI FLYER here but I have to be in the corner of MACEWEN again. He was another best bet to salute at $9 a fortnight ago and the win was excellent, they went slow up front and he was still good enough to run them down. Back to a smaller track and staying at 1200m is not perfect but a lot better tempo is perfect and he maps to be the winner.

*Fuji Flyer is the horse the money has come for. The stable is 0 from 17 with runners first up (from Nov 1 till now). But then again Coulthard was $12 into $4.80 midweek in a stable 0 from 50. (Was well beaten though). Make of the stats what you want, just putting it out there. Fuji Flyer is also accepted in an easier race at the GC so they might go there to break the first up drought.

On Top: 1-MACEWEN $3.50

Race 7:

How goods MEET MR TAYLOR? Bloody good and I can’t really remember a $1.80 pop with more against him so if he wins we might have a star on our hands. He goes up in grade, he goes up 4.5kg, he goes to 1200m for the first time and he draws gate 14 from a starting point that you want to draw low at. Placed horribly but I understand what they are thinking.

SCALLOPINI $7 and FOXY HOUSEWIFE $16 (if she runs here) can be the strong ones late with a hot tempo. She is going better than it reads on paper and from gate 7 can be midfield and be strong late when the leaders are getting a stitch. I could have a 1×4 bet FH here at $4.20 the place. (So if you were spending $5 it would be $1w x $4p.

*Keen to see how the fav goes here.

On Top: 1-MEET MR TAYLOR (But not betting)

Roughie: 8-FOXY HOUSEWIFE (1×4) at $16 + $4.20

Race 8:

SPEEDMAP:

One of the more even races of the day.

CABERIAN and MISHANI ELECTRA are the leaders and to be honest should get the favours in front and a nice time of it. If that’s the case both are leading hopes off recent form. CABERIAN got blinkers two back and is 2/2 since, the last run in particular was good, a NMW race with a good tempo and he held them off on the testing SC track. MISHANI ELECTRA was in a good quality CL6, they went hard and she was only beaten 0.4L by King Lear.

If FOXY HOUSEWIFE runs her she might be the smoky close to double figures. Feel she is going better than it looks, she is a blacktype mare on her day and wasn’t suited in a slow run race last start. She was 4th at Listed level four runs back and only 2.2L off Cadogan a couple back.

IMPASSE was in very good form last prep, Fradd and good gate ideal. Just an avg trial and thought he might need the run but has the ability.

*I’ll probably stay out of this race at the prices.

Hardest To Beat: 8-CABERIAN, 11-MISHANI ELECTRA.

Race 9:

SPEEDMAP:

I was amazed they went up $4.20 TUMBLER. Yes she has the get back pattern and inside gate but she is a genuine G3 type mare and better than them with even luck. She broke 11sec her last 3-200m splits fresh. Senior jock goes on and I’d expect her to be tacked onto the field and not spotting such a big start here.

Obvious danger is SPURCRAFT, he beat TUMBLER last start and was good in doing so, even meets her better at the weights here, he is up on speed and hard to beat. SNOOPY, CANNYESCENT and TAWFIQ BOY all place hopes. MR MARBELLOUZ will be better for the fresh run but I just have to take him on from the gate here.

On Top: 4-TUMBLER $3.80

Hardest To Beat: 5-SPURCRAFT

***************************

GIBBOS BEST:

*Can’t remember making four best, this can’t end well, haha.R

Race 6 No.1-MACEWEN $3.50

Race 8 No.4-TUMBLER $3.80

*Away from Brissy I thought $2.50 was a good price FIGHTING TEO race three at the GC but expect it probably starts shorter.
